precision posted:http://nethack.org There are forks of this that are of some interest. I'm not very familiar with them, though! Be warned if you start them today, you'll have bad luck ingame. Angband forks are somewhat interesting, but I'm very behind on those too. Ones of note are Zangband at http://www.zangband.org/, which is based on Zelazny's books, Steamband at http://angband.oook.cz/steamband/steamband.html which is based on steampunk, and ToME 2 which is somewhat in an odd place of being supported but not officially maintained. ToME is back when it was Tales of Middle Earth, and is a drastically different game. I'd recommend Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup more than any other roguelike. https://www.falcom.co.jp/vantage/download.html Vantage Master Online is a hex-based strategy RPG by Falcom that's free to play. Zandronum is the current Doom engine of choice. If you don't have commercial IWADs, you can use Freedoom and Blasphemer (FreeHeretic, basically) Legend of Princess (link goes directly to download) is a Zelda fangame that Konjak of Iconoclasts/Noitu Love 2 fame made. It is cute and fun and fast. zeta86 is a program to run ZZT on modern Windows. ZZT is one of the best examples of a commercial game working entirely as freeware. If you got the game from a BBS or floppy, you were only able to play one episode, but could still play user maps. If you paid, you got three more campaigns they made, but no change in user map functionality. This led to people scripting JRPGs, platformers, multi-part adventures, and demoscene-styled music tracks in it for free, and the success of it led to Tim Sweeney renaming Potomac Computer Systems to Epic MegaGames. DigitalMZX has a ton of information on Megazeux, the successor to ZZT. If you want to play a Windows 3.11 game like Jezzball or Castle of the Winds, there's a (somewhat) new method using WineVDM. I've had luck getting Spiderweb Software games and After Dark working on it. It mentions a DOS mode, but it doesn't work afaict. Jezzball works great, but other things run too fast and there's no clock cycle settings that I know of.

SelenicMartian posted:Is that the actual title? It took me longer than I care to admit to realize why there was confusion there. Whoops! Here's another game! Ultra Fight da Kyanta 2 is a chaotic, fast paced, MS Paint level fighting game with a surprising number of fun gimmicks. It's starting to get some traction at fighting game tournaments!
