'Let's have some British people just give away large parts of Australia because "nobody lives there"' is something I keep coming back to and while I'm willing to put it down to ignorance rather than malice it doesn't stop it being an incredibly poo poo concept.

Wolfechu posted:To be even fairer, long scenes of sitting in the TARDIS wasn't really a regular thing until the late Tom/Early Davison era. IIRC, we didn't even see the console room in Tom's first season. Yeah. The TARDIS itself isn't even in Sontaran Experiment or Genesis of the Daleks and only appears at the very end of Revenge of the Cybermen. The console room only appears once in Pertwee's last season too.

I thought it was really memorable for how ridiculous it was. Torchwood was mentioned in the Weakest Link section in season 1.

Rochallor posted:It also helps that RTD rarely went ultra-cynical and bleak with his work. There's individual scenes and moments that strive for that, but Midnight really works because of how out of step it is with everything around it. It and Turn Left are sandwiched between the mega-event that is the Series 4 finale and what, the time Agatha Cristie got menaced by a bee? Library 2-parter, then Midnight, then Turn Left. One of the strongest sets of episodes in the revival really.

Cap 1 was shortly after he was in Doctor Who. Toby Jones has been in a whole bunch of prominent stuff (including Harry Potter before Doctor Who) and worked with Moffat again in Sherlock.

Jerusalem posted:His episode of Sherlock was a shining light in that awful final season, he was fantastic. Yeah even though it's hard to disentangle it from the finale it was still the best episode in years and he was a big part of the reason why.

Astroman posted:RTD wasn't as liberal as Moffat with giving BF space to throw stories in, but there's a lot of room between episodes with Jack/Rose/9, and while it was heavily implied 9 had just regenerated in Rose, it's not necessarily so. There's room for a lot there, though it'd probably be solo adventures or one off companions because IIRC he may have said onscreen he hadn't traveled with anyone til he brought Rose on. Rose also implies that he's had a bunch of off-screen adventures that turn up on Clive Finch's website and you can squeeze in a lot of stuff in the few seconds before "By the way did I mention it also travels in time" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX-R1lfycmw

I'm spoiled on the Jack Harkness cameo and the whole turns out the Doctor is a super special super-alien things, but otherwise know nothing. What sort of time am I in for, generally speaking? It's a more interesting season than the previous one. A bunch of stories feel like they needed another draft or two though. Best bits are pretty decent though.

Buffy has lots of quips but the characters being almost all high-schoolers makes it work a bit better than some of the shows it inspired. Plus the long American seasons give plenty of time for things to breathe.

Big Mean Jerk posted:I really think a “RuthDoc is a 6B Doc between 2 & 3” explanation is the best solution for all involved. Just say that 10’s Metacrisis regeneration didn’t count as a full regeneration and you can still adhere to a 13 regeneration limit with Ruth and War Doc as the “forgotten” Doctors. Then have The Master as the actual Timeless Child and you’ve given him another reason to feel so hurt and vengeful toward the Time Lords. Timelords can grant extra regenerations so the ones that the Doctor got in 6B don't count. Done.
