morestuff posted:NBA apparently does have language in the CBA that allows them to stop paying players in the event of an epidemic. Salaries would be prorated to games played The NHL also has it built into standard player contracts: NHL SPC posted:17. If because of any condition arising from a state of war or other cause beyond the control of the League or of the Club, it shall be deemed advisable by the League or the Club to suspend or cease or reduce operations, then: NHL players are paid on the 15th and 30th of each month while the regular season is going on so I guess they'll get paid this weekend and then it's on hold.

Duckman2008 posted:Not being a dick, but where are you reading that ? What I have been reading is that places like Australia are still getting it despite it being end of summer, so the reports seem to be “it may die down, but likely not near enough.” Nobody knows to what degree seasonal temperature will help us out, but the New York Times had an article yesterday about the effects observed so far and there does seem to be a clear effect. As you say, it may not be enough to really give us an "offseason" or it may go away for a while and then come back seasonally to kick our asses.

Airlines are flying empty or nearly empty airplanes around so they can keep their slots at airports. It's hugely wasteful but the slots are valuable because under normal conditions there isn't enough capacity at important airports to meet demand, so airlines want to hold onto them. There are usually rules that if an airline doesn't take advantage of their slots enough the coordinator will give them to somebody else. So even though passenger demand is down 96%, the popular and important airports are still flying like 80% of their normal routes. Smaller less desirable airports probably have massively fewer flights happening.
