I used the free OBS studio, but any capture software should do. This game can be so frustrating. 360 inward heelflip-noscopes are easy, but aligning yourself to the next trick in a line is hard. Also either my thumb is broken or my 360 controller is. I constantly get accidental shuvits, instead of ollies, because I pull right stick 2mm too much left or right, instead of directly down. I don't have this problem with nollies at all.

E: yeah I get that weird shove it thing too, but it’s not all the time. Awesome. A lot easier than I thought it would be to capture at least. https://twitter.com/catcavespdx/status/1289447805702922241?s=21

I shuvit way too much too but when I turned the onscreen controller on I realized two things: I wasn't actually angling the left thumb stick properly (what I thought was the upper left was actually straight up) and I keep scooping the right thumb stick for some dumb reason. It's a horrible muscle memory and I'm not sure where it came from.

I wouldn't mind the accidental shuvit motions, if they happened after I release the stick and not when I do the initial pull down.

Game a glitchy unfinished tech demo, still fun as gently caress. https://i.imgur.com/YQuw8bV.gifv Good job avoiding that fire hydrant suppository, dude. The high school is quite possibly the best single skate map IN HISTORY. I load up the others and pretty much instantly do a u-turn and go back to the school.

This thread has inspired me to get back into Skate 2 and create some stuff. It still holds up very well, and I'll take this over Skate 3 any day. It's a shame only 1 and 3 are backwards compatible on the Xbone. https://i.imgur.com/4kq9w6P.mp4 They don't sell the Filmer Pack anymore, even though all the other DLC is still available. You can still download it by scrolling through your download history and finding it in the list.

Game needs an FPS camera tool. You chase after the skater with standard shooter controls but holding a wide angle camera low to the ground instead. Am already sick of arm wrestling key frames.

I just try to pretend im a filmer skating and sometimes it dont make sense but works. Looking at #skaterxl clips on twitter reveals that a lot of people have better control of this thing than me but theyre all adhd weirdos who have the camera whipping around at 100mph every couple of seconds. I dont even know how to do slow mo.

Welp, I was looking for a Skater XL thread recently and missed this one. Game is great. I've been playing since early access and already have a bunch of footage from mod maps as well as a bunch of stuff from the main levels. Yeah, it took me a little bit to figure out exactly where I needed to push to get over the fence. If you don't time it just right you lose most of your momentum right at the peak of the transition. Would probably have been a lot easier if I used the mod that lets you edit your speed and pop height but I'm running vanilla aside from some modded maps. I think my personal favorite is the first one in my last post because it's so ridiculous. I don't know if you can tell since it's so quick but I tail bonked the bike rack with that nose grab. You can hear it if you turn on sound. That and the powerslide/shifty into boardslide at the end really made that for me. Regrettable fucked around with this message at 09:30 on Aug 3, 2020 |

Sorry, I may have been a little overexcited to share these now that I have a place I can do that. Would changing the links to gifv's help? And while I'm here, has anyone tried out decoupled board rotation? Thinking about checking it out so I can do better looking fronside flips.

They are gifv's, there's just a billion of them and I have my preferences set to show them as videos and not links. I haven't dug into modding yet other than custom maps, there's a lot of things that bug me with the game but not enough to actually do anything about it. Tonight's annoyance: grinding kinks. The way it's impossible to go over a kink without getting airborne looks cheesy as hell.

I'm really starting to dislike it, but the game is built around the default physics. There are many spots that require doing high pop ollies where the standard ollie is already pushing the bounds of believability. It's pretty normal that video games require scaling things up to look "correct" but this seems like a case where they should have avoided it. Still having a ton of fun playing it, it's just annoying to give up on an idea because the replay looks too floaty.

Eh, I wouldn't say the standard ollie is pushing the bounds of believability. Looks like a solid high pop to me, but the high pop is way too high, yeah. I don't know how you would get around the scale issue and still be able to maintain a sense of speed in a third person game, though. Also, drone shots seem like they're pretty much required to film certain lines, especially if there are multiple big stair sets or drops with some turns along the way.

I think the fun part is a major reason why it’s the way it is, more realism would mean more people bouncing off and wanting something closer to skate and being able to skate everything. It happened to a lot of my friends, they found session too hard or unforgiving when the trial was released but are enjoying xl.

Skater XL is fun and extremely janky, but in a couple hours of loving around with it, it definitely recaptured that feeling of skate where you just sit and try to nail a line forever, looking forward to patches where it will hopefully become less laggy. Does the game explain pumping, powersliding, anything like that? I did the tutorial at the start but it was pretty lacking. Any other "hidden" mechanics the game doesn't tell you about that would be useful to know? e: completely missed the powerslide tutorial section, whats the trick for reverts? I'm trying to mirror the stick movement but I just keep powersliding Casual Combustion fucked around with this message at 16:14 on Aug 5, 2020 |

I've been pretty harsh on XL the past few days, but then I fired up Session for about 30 minutes and though I like the dedication to realism, it definitely lacks that "fun" magic.. it really doesn't look as good. The animations in particular are pretty bad, where XL's trick animations are so loving good. My biggest critique is the game needs more "wobble," like the skater should look more off balance when landing a trick poorly or during manuals. I think I just gotta bite the bullet and get the realism mods for XL, see if it helps. To get a revert you have to do the powerslide, then use a trigger to rotate your body, then release the powerslide at the right time to minimize speed loss. It is an extremely quick set of inputs.

You can do reverts without using the triggers if you just time it right. The powerslide to revert down the tiny stair set I posted earlier was done without using triggers.

When grinding or sliding, you can low pop out by pressing one of the sticks. Left one to pop left or right one to pop right. Smoother grinds: Instead of using triggers to turn the whole skater, use the sticks to just turn your board in needed position. When you release the sticks, you continue in forward direction, instead of whatever direction you rotated to.
