Skater XL update dropped today, it's been a bit buggy so far (only 2 of the 3 maps are showing up for me, couldn't get the game to load into any of the new ones at first) but hopefully it'll work itself out. It seems like they've messed with the vert ramp physics as well. Did they list full patch notes anywhere? The update history is just changes & bug fixes. Getting some crazy FPS drops on occasion as well but I'm hoping that's something to do with downloading & not some fun new bug they've introduced. e: they've managed to make their game worse! congrats to easy day on this nearly impossible accomplishment. wish I could refund this poo poo Casual Combustion fucked around with this message at 19:47 on Dec 16, 2020 |

I saw this as well and obviously I would hope that they are, but my patience was already thin after putzing around the same 6 or 7 maps (or if we're being honest, like 2 or 3 maps--high school, LA, streets) for the last 6 months for them to finally provide an update that's essentially just letting console players have access to the same stuff PC people have had forever, and not even access to the things that would make the new maps playable. Quebec on console is just stupid, I was excited for Applewood but the FPS issues are making it basically unplayable, and riverfern was obviously designed with moddable physics as well. yeah I can't say I regret getting in on early access on steam because i've had a lot of fun with it but I haven't had it installed on my computer since the week after 1.0 launched. Just barely feels like an early access game now before they did whatever they did to break it. Session devs arent really much better at keeping regular communication but at least they still have the excuse of it being in early access

It's pretty crazy that the consoles are having performance issues, my PC is from 2013 with a two year old video card and it can run SXL at 4K no issues. I have seen some modded maps being my machine down so there is a breaking point but it's usually silly poo poo with snow particles and a Brazilian rain forest worth of trees. I would have figured an optimization pass on the maps would have easily gotten them to work well on the consoles, this game really isn't doing all that much. One dynamic object testing collisions on a cube is peanuts compared to what some other games out there are doing.

Yeah the customization is looking really drat good, there's a few youtubers that have put up some preview videos. They just need to nail the character animations now because everything still looks super wooden.

Session just keeps looking better and better, hopefully they say something about a PS4 release soon. Skater XL is at least updated a little on consoles so the frame drops aren't quite as frequent, buggy as ever tho and god drat do I want like a stats menu or something at this point, if I had anything else to scratch that skate itch (even just regular rear end skate) I would drop this thing but it's like the only game in town. That is a really pretty map though. I think EZD is kind of pissing away their goodwill, players seem pretty frustrated with the game. They're clearly working on it constantly but the visible results take way too long to go public. Guess that's the problem with people expect AAA response from a company with a dozen or so employees. Example: a recent patch to the game added some dll's to the game folder that can be imported into Unity to aid in making maps. That's cool and good. But it's been three weeks and no one knows how to use them because there's zero documentation and EZD apparently only distributes information to one or two community members who have been too busy to generate tutorials.

I don't think they have very much goodwill left to piss away, from how this response is being taken by the community. I can say for myself that I'm aware they're a smaller studio, but I also don't think it's an insane proposition that a smaller studio might have been able to put out some sort of content updates for their game after being out for nearly a year at this point, to not even have a roadmap beyond "we have ideas for the game!" just isn't excusable. I don't think it's absurd to expect that in that amount of time they could've put more work into the game beyond going to mod.io and downloading an SDK or whatever

I might have to get into Session mapping and convert my map to it, no work needed to make surfaces grindable? That's a massive improvement over SXL because setting up grinds is by far the most painful part of mapping for that game. That's a drat slick patch.

Rest is easy, the mod map importer has a project watcher for easy testing. Patch is good but without tweaking the settings it ain’t easy, and some of the settings you can tweak will flat out make it frustrating if that’s your thing

a new session dropped a couple days ago and it improved the replay editor a bit, added new maps, extended some others, and also various tweaks, like simulated cloud cover. i think session is shaping up to be an awesome game and it really scratches that skate 2 realism "find a cool spot and go nuts" itch. heh, nuts itch just remember to work on leg strength before you go skating https://i.imgur.com/a8m2SSm.mp4

Just remember it's 2020's EA, it's gonna have loot crates and currency out the rear end. I'm still kinda hype though, it's big enough a name that hopefully a good goon community shows up because the goonskate days were a heap of fun. Xl and session don't seem to have gotten any real momentum.

Needs their animation overhaul and MP before more people take notice and get onboard IMO.
