This thread is very confusing to me. From the past four years of twitter discourse I was under the impression that the Left was taking over the Democratic Party and that the libs were going to bend the knee. Not sure why you'd need a third party in that case.

I think there's good arguments for both. On the one hand, the Green Party is already well-established and visible everywhere in the country. Aside from certain insane factions like anti-vaxxers and anti-nuclear fundamentalists, the Green Party holds basically all the progressive positions we'd like. On the other hand, I think a "Bernie Party" would be good to immediately draw in all the Bernie supporters and campaign people.

Bernie would easily be the most viable candidate to go up against Biden and Trump but it's not going to happen. He's going to spend the general election funneling leftists to Biden, just like he did for Hillary. He is of no further use to our movement. It's time to thank him for his service o7 and move on. Howie Hawkins is a good candidate. He's got the Socialist Party USA nom and is leading the race for the Green Party nom. The Green Party is an already established, actually existing left-wing party. It would be a waste of time to start from scratch. Whatever issues you have with the Greens (hippyphobia?), an influx of Bernie Bros could easily steer the party in the direction you want to go.
