I'm pretty excited about the FMW and XPW episodes because FMW was my introduction to Japanese wrestling and death match poo poo when I was a teenager and XPW was this bizarre ECW 2.0 thing I only ever saw in World of Wrestling magazine.

I wonder if New Jack will be in the XPW episode :allears: hell they should do an episode or two on New Jack.

Hopefully, they can confirm that New Jack got paid for an XPW show with porno and dildos.

Nope, I'm just an idiot who somehow forgot they covered New Jack last season. It's been a while since I watched season 2 and the Owen episodes definitely stand out the most in my memory for that season.

What's even weirder is half of them are good and accurate and half of them are horrible puff pieces, assuming where the next two are gonna land.

What are you looking at?
It’s painfully obvious that they’re trying to control the narrative of subjects Vice hasn’t touched yet with the A&E series. I doubt they’ll touch stuff like Owen Hart unless Vince and McDevitt are feeling particularly cruel.

I'm gonna watch a documentary on Rob Black trying to cut off Messiah's dick or whatever that XPW crazy was. That's tripping me out.

I think it's only a matter of time before a Teddy Hart episode. Joey Ryan, also.

considering how slaphappy Joey is with lawsuits, I imagine they're keepin' some distance on that for now.

Joey only threatened people he thought wouldn't be able to take it all the way to court. A TV production company absolutely wouldn't.

That said, he's really not worth doing an episode on, he's a footnote

Even just being part one, the Pillman episode was just okay. It glosses over so much. Crazy Like a Fox is a better account by far. Pillman is one of my favorite entertainers ever but he was a vile, evil dude and this episode doesn’t touch on it at all.

I've never known much about his personal life but they really do gloss over even the wrestling bits. They jump from the Blonds to Bookerman to ECW toward WWF with almost no details to bridge the gaps. I get that you only have an hour, but maybe break it into even more parts if there's that much history to detail.

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere in the thread already, but what's the best way to stream vicetv? I'm in the US so the only options I've seen are either get a cable sub or I think maybe the hulu live TV package. Do they have a regular stream subscription in some other country that I can VPN to?

The book is a fantastic read, but was super difficult for me as a huge fan of his, it basically lays bare what he was which was a pretty brutal guy. He physically and sexually assaulted women regularly and his "ribs" often were more out and out cruel than say, an Owen Hart style joke. I get they don't want to get into all that when his family is so involved but it was odd that they both ignored all that and also ignored a ton of stuff about his pre WWF career that is frankly the most interesting thing about his career.

the producers have talked about how hard it is to even get 2-part episodes approved, you're never going to get a comprehensive career retrospective out of a cable TV documentary

Pillman is a weird one for me because I loved his wrestling career but never really knew much about his personal life. Being a teenager when he died and the internet being what it was at the time, I just didn't know all of the details. And, in the years since I never had a big urge to dig in more.

Even from the small bits that came up in the first episode, there were a lot of things I never knew. Had no idea about how he and Melanie manipulated things so horribly for his daughter and how things turned out for her mother. Just horrible.

I'm gonna have to check that book out for sure.

I do like it when they let someone put forth their definitely-wrong opinion about a situation and then immediately debunk it with the next talking head. It's in this episode with Bischoff trying to explain that he was in on Pillman's release, and then immediately someone, probably Kim Wood, shits all over that.

It happened I think in the Montreal episode with Scott Hall's "it's all a work" theory (I haven't seen the episode since it aired so I could be misremembering that) and in the Von Erichs episode when Kevin claims that Mike was a great athlete and then they immediately cut to Cornette who says Mike wasn't a wrestler and Dave who says he wasn't a good athlete.

Dutch has long been one of the most open people about what happened to Brody. Abby was explicitly framed as someone to be wary of. I'm not sure what your point is here, exactly.

Also, it's wrestling, if they had to completely avoid "obvious liars," then there wouldn't be a show.

I think you're right in that they're not gonna go into too deep detail how lovely some people are, but in that episode, I think it was pretty clear that they painted Abdullah as someone you shouldn't trust on his side of the story, and Dutch as just someone who was there giving the blandest eyewitness report. Though when you weaved Dutch's side with Tony's, you got a much clearer picture of the entire thing.
