So far my biggest complaint is that Default isn't on a shoulder button, but default is. Why do that? Also if you just jam on Brave and then choose Default for any of your turns you lose them all. That's really sloppy design.

You can't rotate the camera in the dungeon which means if you are running down it's almost impossible to avoid enemies.

I'm enjoying the demo, but there are lot of little things that make it seem like the game needs a little more time in the oven.

Just downloaded the demo and was just checking out the abilities and I’m now convinced the people who are making this don’t understand the game they are making. Some physical abilities now cost a percentage of HP, usually 10 or 15%. You can Brave four times and leave your character almost dead. Was this how the last demo was? Because this seems crazy.

They added a little info box that explains what ever you have selected menus which is really nice and helpful, but the rest of the UI wasn’t designed with it in mind so it covers up stuff sometimes, mainly when looking at equipment. In shops it can be hard to tell to tell the effects on a character if the item has a longer description and the same thing happens in the equipment menu.

Nice, assumed there was a way to turn it off, but I couldn’t find a button.

Some of the accessories that are easily accessible in town provide huge bonuses to HP. They doubled the HP of my White and Black Mages. That solved a lot of my early problems from them being so squishy.

Oh boy if the things the Thief Asterisk boss can do are done by many of the bosses later in the game there are going to be some real not fun moments.

I'm up to that boss that the reviewer was complaining about earlier in the thread and I think they were right. There is a boss that is immune to all physical damage and can only be damaged by purely elemental attacks. I'm stuck in a long battle of attrition where I'll eventually win because my characters all regenerates MP, but it is going to take awhile. I hope I'm just being a huge idiot here, because this seems like a very poorly designed encounter.

It's definally a lot like Bravely Default/Second in that boss fights are less about huge slugfests and more about weird traits and gimmicks that can be trivialized with a particular setup. Then you have poo poo like the Gambler where unironically all about luck.

The game gave me a choice between two areas so I'm wondering if the asterisk I got from this this fight will trivialize the the other boss fight and visa versa.

elemental magic damage or can you use elemental physical attacks? I know the Vanguard can pop people with earth damage

If the attack has a picture of a weapon in its description it did zero damage. The Vanguard's first weak earth elemental attack that delays worked because it uses your shield and just has the earth elemental symbol, The second one they get that actually does good damage did not work because it uses your weapon. The boss seemed to technically be immune to all weapon types.

I had no idea this had a Triple Triad equivalent and all my story progress abruptly stopped when it opened up. Screw the crystals, I need to steal MORE cards from children.

Am I correct in assuming I need to get to max rank to get the Gambler asterisk? Is it possible to grind it out as soon as you can start playing?

You just have to beat the people in the casino. It is doable as soon as you unlock the game. It shows who to beat if you track the side quest.

the one thing currently bothering me is that I haven't gotten a healer job since White Mage and I've already mastered that one long ago. Putting White Mage as a sub job obviously will still let you heal, but all the other jobs except Bard seem to have pretty bad stats for it making the heals weak

You don't get any other healing job until Chapter 3.

I think Bard's base likelihood to be targeted is higher than a lot of classes though so they might require some babysitting.

One of the last Berserker kills is a group wide attack for HP and it mulches enemies. If you are fine healing after random encounters it really seems like the way to go, especially once you get the ability to dodge physical counters.

Boy the boss of Chapter 3 is some grade A bullshit. You want to debuff him, well gently caress you he counters with an elemental attack of random elements that might one shot squishier characters. You get him to about 1/3 HP, well he’s going to start using an AOE that does a flat 2000 damage or 1300 if you default, he will use this a counter to any attack or in a huge chain of Brave attacks which he will get plenty of since he gets BP as a counter to any ability you use. I feel like they want me to beat this an a very specific way, which seems antithetical to a job game. The amount of ways they seem to be giving bosses to punish or negate any advantage you get from using the Brave system seems real dumb.

Edit:Complaining works! I beat him the next try.

According to the loading screen tip using another Special while the music is playing extends the buff duration.

I’ve found that the only thing that is making magic attacks worth it is maxing Red Mage and using that as your primary job. The second passive you unlock makes you cast each spell twice at no extra MP cost.

and the right way, the Oracle. He counters almost everything you do by slowing, stopping, or using triple magic on whoever attacked. He even slows and stops defaulting units. He also has a ton of HP, and when he gets to the final 3rd he starts using aoe meteors for 2k party damage. If you load a shieldmaster with 2 shields and as much magic def as possible and just have them protect the party, it becomes pretty easy. Cast reraise on everyone and let them die so them come back in critical status so they get auto guarded.

How did the Shieldmaster deal with that 2K attack? I couldn’t get around that group wide attack so I just used had to knock out a third of his HP in the span of one characters turn so he never technically changed phases.

My go to killers for random battles and bosses have been Vanguards with Berserker as the sub job. The second Vanguard skill that increases physical attack based off of the likelihood of being targeted shoots their damage sky high. Leveling Slash destroys encounters and I frequently am hitting for 9999 using Leveling Slash or Neo Cross Slash against bosses. Two characters Braving up to 3 and then attacking 8 times over two turns shreds through HP.

Elvis: Spiritmancer/White Mage. Solely responsible for keeping Gloria the Immovable Object intact. Casts Reraise on her, laughs hilariously.

My opinion of Spiritmancer shot way up once I got to rank 12. It went from this spirit stuff is cool I guess, but I really just want Reraise, to I can never not use this thanks to the free removal of any negative status effect every turn along with constant MP regen.

I think I got mine from the dungeon under the town when there is that path that opens up back to the over world. There was a rare snake enemy and behind it was a chest that contained the accessory.

I'm kind of just laughing now at how skewed the action economy is towards your enemies. I'm in chapter 6 and I'm pretty sure the bosses are getting like four turns to every one that my slower characters get. Though that is mainly due to the fact that everything has Counter: All Abilities which just gives them free BP.
