Wachter posted:How common is the loss of taste in covid patients? My wife just said the spag bol tastes weird and it can't be possibly be because my cooking is crap I'm having to self isolate rn because I was showing symptoms, don't know if I have it or not but yea my appetite has been affected. Stuff tastes kind of gross to me like I had a curry yesterday and it just tasted overwhelmingly of water/oil. Really weird, I didn't realise it was common. thrashingteeth fucked around with this message at 13:49 on Apr 1, 2020 |

I'm curious as to the public reaction in a few weeks when it's really a crisis- especially for those still having to go into work. I know someone who genuinely thought herd immunity was a good idea because it lets " us healthy people get on with it and keep the country going". They are definitely the type to come in with symptoms, so I loving hope I have it now so least I have some immunity.

And yeah, if the lockdown works at all it will look like an overreaction, because tens of thousands of people won't have died. Yea this is my entire workplace. I don't think it's just the oldies, it's just decades of British arrogance.

I'm just hoping something will crack through that really obnoxious arrogance people get in the developed world that "no mass tragedies can happen here" before climate change eats us alive.

TACD posted:I think this is just weaselly news phrasing because they're reporting these before anybody has done an official cause-of-death thing rather than some big media conspiracy. Yea I wouldn't say it's a conspiracy at all, just very cautious reporting. I guess we're at a stage of the pandemic where it is going to get worse very quickly and once the great British PUBLIC catch wind that they could just die I guess they want to avoid mass panic. It's always frustrating though to see them exercise caution in one instance and chat poo poo in another but that's just the BBC for you I suppose.

superliminal posted:jesus I know it seems bad but it seems like something a lot of the politically apathetic public will get behind? Just like the whole idea of "sorting Brexit out". There are multiple political avenues to work with the Rona and Brexit but people seem to just want it to be as "apolitical" as possible. I'm not a Starmer Stan but why not at this point gently caress it, why not work together with the lovely government. The public will be like "he's so mature and non-partisan", anything to keep them away from the loving tories or any fash adjacent parties. Maybe my time moving to a Tory heartland has really destroyed my ability to hope, people on this island really do love the boot. Also tbh we were never going to get the society we wanted just with a labour win, it would have stopped a lot of suffering but it was never our only avenue to power. If there is one thing I can take from being leftwing it's the ability to get up after any soul-crushing defeat and keep going. Always forward.

I have been self-isolating since Friday after showing symptoms and I think I'm out of it (except for being unable to taste or smell anything), I don't have a temperature atm and I have not left my room other than to cook. Will I be patient zero for the tory hellhole where I live if I go to the shops on Sunday or work on Monday?

El Grillo posted:Guidance is to stay home for at least 7 days after symptoms subside I thought? Temperature is the main reason to keep isolating it seems, I copied this from the NHS site. "If you have symptoms of coronavirus, you'll need to self-isolate for 7 days. After 7 days: if you do not have a high temperature, you do not need to self-isolate if you still have a high temperature, keep self-isolating until your temperature returns to normal You do not need to self-isolate if you just have a cough after 7 days. A cough can last for several weeks after the infection has gone." I can still cough on people so long as I'm not roasting while doing it.

All these libs coming out for Kier make me respect them even less. Its not even political I'm just loving shocked at who they choose to be their daddy. Keir is a lovely daddy, I'll die on this hill. He looks like maybe he'll slap your rear end and say GOSH but that's it. Doesn't even have that awful London Business man vibe. Honestly atrocious. 0/10

I don't know what's so hard about keeping your labour membership to be able to push leftist poltica where you can WHILE doing your other organising. All this "leave labour" stuff just seems like purity politics imo. The Labour Party is a tool nothing more. Christ you can even just join a union like unite rather than the party just to keep left voices in it. It literally doesn't take too much.
