I live in a solidly blue state and will 100000% come out and vote for the downballot and was even prepared to pull the lever for Joe (not happlily) but goddamn if he pics Klob I'll still downballot but fuuuuuck voting for that shitpile. If I was in a red state I'd do it but would loving stop funneling money to the registered DNC I did with the note "Get your poo poo together".

The Klob slipped up back on Super Tuesday and said she was thrilled to join the ticket. There was a 50/50 chance she actually was going to be the VP pick or if she just misspoke. Guess we'll find out soon.

I feel like it's really cheap and juvenile to make fun of her last name (this isn't partisan of me, I utterly loathe the "Drumpf" meme), but the fact I haven't been able to get her name to stick in my head despite her being around for months is making it really hard for me to avoid. I had the same problem with Mayor Pete.

While I don't think it's unlikely that Klobuchar might be the pick, I think folks are way too certain based only off Twitter rumors and people misspeaking. Edit: JFC, I've been leaning toward a reluctant vote for Biden, but the campaign has been actively giving me the finger in the last month: https://twitter.com/AFP/status/1255615811621924870 Cugel the Clever fucked around with this message at 01:18 on Apr 30, 2020 |

Nah, it's would be an extremely unenthusiastic pick that would maybe pick up a few votes from people who aren't jazzed about Biden but like the idea of a female VP, but doesn't actually hurt the ticket. Palin hurt McCain badly, because his whole pitch was contrasting "Look how much experience I have, and how much Obama doesn't", but as soon as people realized just how dumb Palin was they started looking at actuarial tables instead.

I think McCain was a centrist who made a pick to the right to keep the shifting party happy. Palin was closer then to the GOP ideal now. Biden is a centrist picking another lovely centrist. Presuming Klob is the nominee

I dunno, I was still a republican in 2008 and we all thought Palin was an awesome choice to stick it to the libs because our woman canceled out their Black guy as being progressive. I'm still not very smart, but at least I'm a socialist now

That Works posted:I think McCain was a centrist who made a pick to the right to keep the shifting party happy. Palin was closer then to the GOP ideal now. McCain wasn't really a centrist, though there were a lot of grumbles to his right. The Palin pick was really about nullifying Obama's advantages—getting someone with youth and charisma who was strong on guns and pro-life, and helping the McCain campaign achieve their own historic "first female vice president" to counteract Obama's "First african-american President." The vetting period was extremely short, however, and they had no idea just how belligerant or unintelligent she actually was. By contrast, Biden wants the campaign to be about a return to competency and normalcy, focusing on pragmatic goals and accomplishments to broaden access healthcare, secure voting rights, and reverse the Trump administration's attacks on American institutions. So for them, someone like Klob makes sense: a long-standing and popular Senator from the Midwest with solid credentials and a pragmatic approach to government that is well-qualified to be President should Joe suddenly wither to dust in office. She doesn't attract anyone on the left, but there is a chance the Biden campaign is calculating that the gains from picking a candidate more appealing to the left would be offset by losses from Republican-leaning independents in the center who are concerned about Biden being too far left already.* It's not a rationale I really agree with and I think there are much better options, but it's not nearly as bad as the Palin pick imo, which was straight-up disastrous to McCain's campaign. *I will fully admit to using 'my dad' as a stand-in to the kinds of voters the Biden campaign is looking to appeal to, but in fairness given he's a white, upper-middle class boomer in suburban Michigan I don't think I'm too far off the mark

bloops posted:I don’t see the importance of that as a voting issue. Someone explain why should I care. And I’m not being flippant, I genuinely don’t. Because a central plank of Democratic for gun policy has always been a two state solution and recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has been regarded by most people who understand the situation as not just putting nails in the coffin of the peace process, but dumping cement on top of it. It’s basically Biden embracing his calling as the leader of the “Better Things Aren’t Possible” Brigade by refusing to undo one of the biggest and also dumbest foreign policy moves of the Trump administration. It continues to normalize the Israeli occupation and is nothing close to resembling even the milquetoast approach of Obama or even GWB before him. The only reason I have to vote for Biden at this point is that he isn’t Trump. After that, I hope the progressive wing of the party puts the Pelosi and Biden types out to pasture for good.
