inside the mod forums https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEwVgZxLLIE I don't think this article got posted last thread, but it's a fun read. Well, fun's not the right word, more like watching someone being accused of showing their whole rear end to the world stripping down and streaking through the community. It's a train wreck in a good way. https://www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/the-contrarian-coronavirus-theory-that-informed-the-trump-administration In the article, Isaac Chotiner interviews a prominent NYU law professor Richard A. Epstein about his article titled "Coronavirus Perspective". An article where Epstein, one of the most cited legal scholars in the country, downplays the extent of the spread and the threat of the disease. Color commentary for the interview is provided by several infectious disease and epidemiology experts throughout the text. It goes about as well as expected. https://twitter.com/parul_sehgal/status/1244407730183507975?s=20

Icon Of Sin posted:I was more referring to the azithromycin included in the study. I’m fairly certain most of us here have experience with some flavor of chloroquine, and none of it fun or good. Azithromycin has some anti-inflammatory effects on airways in addition to its usefulness as an antibiotic. Meaning that while the chloroquine was working on the virus, it suppressed the immune response in the lungs, reducing respiratory distress. At least that's the gist I got from my MD/PhD dad and reading some pharm studies.

All I get in my mailbox are bills and ads. Florida woman put 400 Easter eggs filled with porn in mailboxes, deputies say. https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2020/04/09/florida-woman-put-400-easter-eggs-filled-with-porn-in-mailboxes-deputies-say-heres-why quote:FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Multiple Flagler County residents recently found little plastic Easter eggs placed inside their mailboxes, but instead of being filled with treats, the eggs were hiding pornographic images and fish-shaped crackers. Authorities say a 42-year-old Florida woman is responsible. A real hero.

I recognized Smoka from YOSPOS. They're a pretty decent shitposter, and posts a lot of interesting youtube videos in the YOSPOS pics thread. Dunno how serious their QQCS thread was, but I lol'd at it. In somewhat happier news, Missouri will not be left behind in the arena of "re-open our state" protests. Here Are the Mental Giants Planning a Protest to Reopen Missouri Next Week https://www.riverfronttimes.com/newsblog/2020/04/17/here-are-the-mental-giants-planning-a-protest-to-reopen-missouri-next-week The reporter is over it all. my favorite line posted:Now before we go any further, let me say: I almost didn't write this post. To a degree, I understand that a lot of these people are scared, and this willful denial of science and defiant chest-beating amount to a coping mechanism. It is far, far more comforting to believe that uh George Soros and uh I dunno "the media" is teamed up with pfffft maybe Hillary or Obama or some poo poo I dunno in a dastardly plot to utterly sink the economy that is responsible for all of their wealth than it is to believe that an invisible pathogen that doesn't give a gently caress about you or your political leanings is legitimately and indiscriminately infecting and killing people at an alarming rate. quote:So please beg pardon while I drag these people mercilessly.

Acebuckeye13 posted:You know, when Morgan Freeman said "Get busy living, or get busy dying" in The Shawshank Redemption, I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant. Not just happy to play chicken, a substantial part of their base wants to play chicken with the economy. Rand Paul may be an outlier in the Senate, but his opinions are not outliers in the GOP's electorate. Unfortunately, Rand Paul's still an outlier in the Senate, so Mitch McConnell has 0 reason to court senate Dems to votes to counter GOP defections. Dems flat out don't have any leverage in the Senate. Them not using the media to poo poo on the GOP for holding this up is all on them though. Their messaging has been poo poo throughout this whole process. Put your hard lines in the sand, and sell that message. Stand your ground. "We will not support the Republicans using this national crisis to enrich their billionaire friends on the coffins of the workers of this country." GOP & Fox gonna vilify you no matter what you do, might as well look like you're showing some backbone for your electorate.

Best Friends posted:So the republicans wanted this bill very badly, and were afraid democrats would impede it...but the dems did not have leverage? That's not how negotiations work. The most you can say is that dems were not willing to use that leverage, in which case, we are agreed. They didn't fight and did not even consider actually fighting, which would have involved credibly threatening to not vote for this bill. The original GOP bill was $250 billion just for the PPP. Dems got that up to $310 billion, including a doubling of the EIDL grants to $20 billion, a new $75 billion fund for HHS grants to health providers dealing with this, an additional $25 billion for specifically for testing, and another $50 billion for SBA loans. "Not fighting" got $100 billion for health care support and an additional $110 billion for small business support. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/21/politics/read-congressional-bill-to-help-small-businesses/index.html Could they have fought for more? Sure. Would they have gotten it? Probably not. Why? Because there is a large enough contingent in the GOP electorate and party apparatus that doesn't support any kind of bailouts or support whatsoever. For as dumb and bad as the Dems are, they're negotiating with a death cult at the federal level. The GOP flat out doesn't care if their electorate lives or dies, and their electorate will still support them.

Try reading more than a headline. Like the article or what others have posted. Cause I'm pretty sure nobody but you has been saying those things. It's a bandaid bill that covered necessary support to businesses for payroll that the dems were able to get some additional concessions on for health care that they are able to push through with UC. Sometimes things can just be mediocre. There's plenty of better reasons to poo poo on the dems for stuff than this mediocre bill.
