Torrannor posted:Looks like New York has told EMTs to stop transporting cardiac arrest patients without pulse to the hospitals. Mr. Nice! posted:Well, I mean, they had a death every 2 minutes and 52 seconds yesterday in NYC. That's down from 3 min 36 seconds the day before. They're going to be at or under the 2 minute mark today most likely. New York has surpassed the total amount of active cases my entire country has like 3 days ago, and it has three times the deaths. The development today alone looks absolutely ridiculous. This poo poo is going to be grim as all loving hell. But don't worry: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1245720677660925952

I'm not quite sure where the statements of optimism from Cuomo last week came from, NY has been pushing like 800 deaths per day, so I guess the rate of new cases / hospitalization is receding somehow?

Old Boot posted:This whole timeline is making me want to take up smoking again. This whole timeline is making me wish I had a weed hook-up for the weekend, especially since I'm now basically driving only once per week when I don't have any validation testing scheduled. Driving comically-overpowered vehicles in the last two months has also developed in me this even more strenuous respect for not even having a beer the night before I have testing scheduled. Like, legit pilot protocols. Having a 2.6 ton vehicle with 530 hp break out on you because of a surprise-DSC-failure will do that. I wasn't a fan of massive cars to begin with, now I have even more of a healthy respect for them.

Old Boot posted:I'll stick with my Prius, I think. Yeah, I'm happy with my French hatchback. It's got some issues, but it's served me well like my very first hatchback in 2002. I don't think I'll ever really move away from small-to-medium sized vehicles that offer you everything you need for a bachelor- or non-childhaving-relationship life and can be converted to solid stowing capacity with the flip of two seats. For my next car in 3-5 years, I think I might consider going up a notch for something like a wagon. Maybe a 3 series or Volvo. I'm not a fan of the size, but the step-up in utility is considerable. The amount of different cars I'm driving at work has had me put some thoughts into it. Partially because lol @ those rich people cars, and partially because of the different classes I get to test. Hell, I drove a 2 series GranTourer just this Thursday and it essentially felt like a more expensive Honda Jazz. I liked the capacity and versatility of it while getting a comically good gas mileage, it just felt...odd.

Stuff like “When somebody is president of the United States, your authority is total.” I looked up the "briefing" on YouTube, got about as far as the part where Trump says "we've got the greatest economy, we've got the biggest employment numbers ever, some of the biggest unemployment numbers as well, as you know. The greatest of everything.", and just immediately closed the tab. Watched some of the "best of" clips from his meltdown as well, and I'm done. I can't do it anymore.

Pryor on Fire posted:Outside of serious lung conditions and age, obesity appears to be the biggest risk factor for ending up in the hospital and getting critically ill when you catch covid. I've not done any ~scientific google research~ on this, but I'm fairly sure that obesity generally aggravates any severe respiratory condition you might catch. As a former card-carrying fat person, I would say I'd be concerned about my chances with Covid in the hospital before even reading that article, but I guess that most obese folks would brush that word of caution away like any other word of caution regarding their general state of health. I loving know I did for the longest time when I was still 275 lbs, despite "only" being fat at 6'2" while not quite "morbidly obese". The only reason I dropped weight is because of the actual effect - both measurable and conscious - on my knee. I feel like voluntarily - though subconsiously - sustaining or increasing overweight status has some elements of substance abuse, because you don't really notice the necessity for immediate and consistent change until you "see rock bottom coming right up at you", to throw out some more Wire quotes. I didn't see any form of "bottom" coming right up at me (butt-joke) until my 6th knee surgery (not weight-related) and suddenly realized every single fewer pound on this leg buys me time. I'm now around 225lbs and still consider myself "fat" on account of still sporting a bit of a gut and some thicc legs, even though I now fit into some spiffy business-casual attire, but my concern about catching the 'rona is more due to the fact that I'm a thrombosis risk, and can't be administered the same type/amount of medication like antibiotics for supra-infections should I ever require intensive care. Well, that was quite an unsolicited E/N post, thanks for listening

That's quite a bit misleading. Mutti did a press conference today that was delayed by two and a half hours since they were waiting for the conclusion and evaluation of what the appointed cabinet recommend. (I know, quite shocking that the leader of a Nation would wait for the experts to agree on a course of action, and then making an address based on those recommendations) What had been announced before the conference was that all large-scale events would be prohibited until 31st of August. People were expecting an "exit strategy" for the lifting of restrictions, but whaz was essentially announced is that the current restrictions would be continued another 3 weeks until May 4th (following the policy of extending the restrictions for no more than 2 to 4 weeks at a time), and that - in the interim - the implementation of regulations for mandatory face mask use would be considered. That news report of "schools reopening" on May 4th is based on the lifting of school-closings for specific school systems and their related grades under adherence of safety & health precautions to facilitate graduation exams. What today's press conference essentially meant is that the restrictions are going to continue indefinitely, while relaxation of restrictions for crucial things is being considered. Hell, the "governor" of Bavaria and Merkel's right hand (lol) specifically mentioned that "beer festivals" and other poo poo would be part of the VERBOTEN events until September, and while I'm sure his super loving conservative heart is hoping that all of this will clear up in the next two months, it was pretty much the guarantee that Oktoberfest will also be shitcanned. Operational logistics for Oktoberfest usually start in late May/early June, so at this point I'm all but sure that this is a done deal. And that is a good thing. Don't have a recipe, but man, j now crave some flat bread or naan. Also: explain to me why every white person on the planet is now starting a sourdough culture while doing WFH. The toilet paper craze I "kinda understood", because at least there was a rational need/demand at the root of it that got blown out of proportion by dumb people, but sourdough...?

Remdesivir was part of the drugs that Trump was initially told to word-vomit about like a week or two ago, except he couldn't pronounce it, and instead said - with this faux-confidence of someone thinking they're the only one that knows a thing - "Rim-Reservoir" or somesuch. So regardless of its effectiveness, you can expect Trump to say he was right about it all along despite pushing an entirely different drug for weeks.
