This would be why stacking the courts was a huge deal for me in the primary. It's not just reproductive rights and the myriad other poo poo the courts control, its poo poo like this that I've been watching take shape in my own backyard for the past decade. The courts matter. No, it's not crazy. Wisconsin is absolutely the canary in the coal mine, and I hope people are listening more than Twitter/etc seems to indicate. A non-trivial number of people seem a lot more interested in bashing on Evers when there was gently caress nothing he could do. The executive order was a hail mary, always was, and the GOP was literally standing there counting on people wanting to save lives as a way to jam ther foot in the door.

It's not that I was ever unaware of how craven the GOP was. I just feel like I'm in a state of shock at the moment, and pretty much have been all night. EDIT: The sheer amount of despair coming from other Wisconsinites this morning is pretty intense right now. I'm gonna go have a drink.

State legislators set the dates. And it remains the case that, in Wisconsin, it's not just a primary. GOP may - MAY - not have given a poo poo about moving the date if it was just the primary. Mostly because it would've been even more nakedly about killing Democrats and, more specifically, killing black people, but I'm not going to bet money on that deterring them from trying.
