Internet Wizard posted:How much responsibility does the DNC have in this primary debacle? Aren't they the ones that set the date of their primaries? Or is it state mandated? DNC does not set primary dates. But they can do things like punish states with less delegates if the states all rush to be the first state to be primaried in a gambit to bring ad and venue money into the state. State legislators set the dates.

Now, there are some enablers or types of units that are basically 100% filled by national guard units, but they're individually on MUCH less frequent deployment timelines than active units.

PeterCat posted:NG aviation is on a constant deployment cycle. And since it's a smaller community, with people who stay longer in the organization, you get the same people deploying over over again as they move through units in the state while not being in the same individual unit. Aviation is more tasked than most but their D2D doesn’t approach active, I wager. Could be wrong. I live in the world of utterly bonkers D2D, though, where we perpetually break all of the supposed limits and other active units think our D2D must be made up.

Duzzy Funlop posted:What in the blue gently caress is this even supposed to mean: As is common, it's a weird almagamum of things that are half true that either he does not understand or is deliberately misleading about. Evidence suggests that the greatest proximate source of infection in NYC was from travelers coming from Europe. Sure, those travelers probably got it through some series of events leading back to Wuhan, but the point of these traces is to figure out how to manage pandemics not to have someone just angrily point out the address of "patient 0" or whatever. If my city has a pox outbreak, it's not very useful to point out that the version of pox originally came from some other continent long ago. IIRC the China threatened to or had some NYT reporters expelled from China after questioning the Chinese government's line about rate of infection, number of deaths, etc. China's official reasoning for threatening the explusion of journalists was that the Trump administration announced it would limit the number of Chinese media personnel allowed inside the USA. China expelled 3 WSJ reporters a few weeks back. quote:“We urge the United States to immediately change its course, correct mistakes, and stop political suppression and unreasonable restrictions on Chinese media,” Mr. Geng said. “If the United States insists on taking its own course, compounding mistakes, China will be forced to take further countermeasures.” quote:WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Monday limited to 100 the number of Chinese citizens who may work in the United States for five state-controlled Chinese news organizations. The decision is expected to escalate tensions between Washington and Beijing in a diplomatic feud that has caught journalists in the crossfire. So basically the president is screaming at the NYT for pointing out that COVID-19 came to NYC from Europe and arguing that the NYT should be pinning blame on China instead, while mocking the NYT for supposedly being pro-PRC despite the PRC being unfair to open media. So it's basically a dumb rant born of half-way real events.

Sure, but as opposed to “concerned” senators, Governor Cuomo doesn’t really have much ability to control the president other than telling him to gently caress off and NY State legally challenging administration policies. Which NY state and/or NYC has done on a number of issues.

You know what else sucks about local government reopening stores/restaurants? Plenty of small businesses have insurance to cover periods of governmentally forced closures. But if governor says “you can open,” but no one leaves their home to go spend money at brick and mortar stores, the small business gets to eat poo poo.

I understand that mileage varies, but I have had a major delay in DTS which wasn't my fault maybe once? And it was some rear end in a top hat retired Navy guy turned GS employee being a total dickhole until our deputy commander called him and lost his poo poo with him. Usually 3-10 days to get paid? I've had more DTS angst when it comes to explaining to some pre-travel checker peon that there is a very, very good reason why we didn't choose a particular hotel or car or flight or whatever when it's the flight location that is $2 cheaper, but it gets cancelled 50% of the time due to weather or whatever. Or why flying out of the bigger airport an hour down the road is better than flying out of the 2 whole flights per day from the micro-airport near some travel location.
