I think Squenix just decided to shrug and hedge their bets, because frankly after all these years of fans going on about Aerith and about Sephiroth (and there's Sephiroth's popularity, etc) and all the rest, if they'd made a game that lacked in certain beats -- especially Sephiroth -- there would have been riots no matter how illogical those riots would be based on the original's plot beats. Maybe even moreso from those who never played the original, just absorbed it. "They said he's a badass but I didn't even see him yet?! He's the villain isn't he?" So it's a case of meeting in the middle to try and match expectations and possibly/probably succeeding ... about as much as expected.

Haha only serious but not really suggestion: that Squenix is daft enough to really give Nomura and company full rein to just toss in whatever, we've really broken continuity of time and space, and the Sephiroth in FFVIIr is the same one from the Dissidia games. Already has a track record of trying to derail poo poo, even, with a peek behind the curtain of destiny and gods pulling strings. Not afraid to kill himself in the process, either!

So this is an interesting bit that doesn't get reflected in the English dialogue track: https://twitter.com/SchalaKitty/status/1250498614369169408 Tl;dr Sephiroth uses "ore" pronouns in the Edge Of Creation scene instead of "watashi"; "ore" was his standard usage before he went bugfuck/got good and Jenova'd, while "watashi" is crazy!Sephiroth. He does use "watashi" throughout the rest of FFVIIr, only using "ore" at the Edge Of Creation.. Make of it as much or as little as you like, I spose.

Flopsy posted:The implication is in that moment he's not gently caress crazy and is actually sincerely trying to make a point....which is odd.....huh. It explains(? maybe) the slight surprise/flinch/whatever you want to call that brief look when Cloud goes hell no. It certainly looked more like a genuinely human response. Maybe we will see him fight himself, or something.
