hey this game is great and i have a few questions:

what's the difference between the Altitude stat of a plane and the Ideal Altitude stat of an engine? almost every plane in the playbooks has an ALT of 29.

are the playbooks or the background descriptions in the corebook more authoritative? I'm currently playing a farmer and the core says you only get one vice but the playbook says two.

Y'all will be very happy to know I intend to do just that: this form was just to make them quickly printable and, frankly, to finish it for my deadline. There will be a Volume 0 plane guide with more details on each of these planes, and a Volume 1 with 50ish additional planes soon!

What does "SG" mean in reference to a planes weapon profile?

I'm looking at the Ritter Sperling A and it says it has a fore access SG, does SG mean submachinegun?

I'm looking for a crappy enemy plane that's easy to shoot down and it looks perfect

SG is a shotgun i think

Authority is a stat that... shouldn't be in the game anymore. I'll make sure it's removed.

it's also mentioned in the gyrocopter text and under the witchy broom power.

open_sketchbook posted:

Yeah, gliders basically have a max speed of 0, so you start with whatever speed you were released from the aircraft with and lose it to Energy Loss and Turn Bleed until you stall or touch the ground. That's all there is to it.

seems like that makes the wingsuit fairly situational, is that intentional?

with the wing mounted guns i think it's modeling convergence? if that was a thing in ww1 combat?

synchronizer gear means your guns fire pas the propeller without hitting it, mechanically you can't have Fore Access guns on a single engine plane that aren't synchronized without problems.

Session 0 done for the adventures of Flaschenfeuer Kompanie (insignia: an anthropomorphic Molotov cocktail), consisting of:

  • Nixie Schale, the Fisher. Accompanied by her acolyte Kieme and flying a pink Teicher Moewen 13S.
  • Dav Kavita, the Skyborn. Flying a Cheetal and accompanied by a balloon crewed by identical cousins Hana, Dul, Sus, and Nes
  • Moser, the Survivor. Accompanied by masked Alsatian Schultz and flying the Wunderflugzeug!
  • Dieter. A local hired as a gunner for Dav. Has no idea what he's in for.

They have all met in the charmingly named but fairly poor town of Schuntertissen (Piss Happily?) and are looking for a mission to pay their bills so they can maybe leave, or make some kind of a difference, or something.

I'm going to say no, because Confidants have to have standards you can violate, whereas dogs just like their big friend and like hell I'm even implying this game has mechanics intersecting with animal abuse.

(Shooting down giant eagles isn't animal abuse, they are trying to eat you!)

that's reasonable. i was trying to come with workable standards like 'throw ball' and 'feed regularly' and it did seem kind of fraught.

Routine 1:
Nixie, Moser and Dav flew a patrol over two sectors of the valley surrounding Schuntertissen with instructions to engage and shoot down a group of bandits who had been intercepting trade and supply flights in and out of the town. In the first sector they encountered a transport plane that had been attacked with several injured crew and a stopped engine. Dav was able to use his wingsuit to board the crippled craft and restart the engine, allowing the pilot to make it to the town. The kompanie then regained altitude and moved to the next sector. Warned by her dark gods Nixie was able to spot 4 aircraft using the sun for cover at a slight altitude advantage. With the element of surprise Flaschenfeuer Kompanie engaged from below. The enemy were flying in a ‘finger four’ echelon at 1700m. Moser climbed to behind Bandit 1, raking it with machine gun fire from close range, hitting and killing the pilot instantly, while Nixie engaged Bandits 2 and 3 with precision rifle fire from long range scoring hits but to little effect. Dav also climbed to engage Bandit 4, but was forced to run his engine hot to recover energy and had difficulty lining up an effective attack run at first. Bandits 2 and 3 attempted to engage Moser but were unable to do more than superficially damage the Wunderflugzueg, and Bandit 4 attempted a head on pass against Dav but failed to inflict any damage. Dav’s observer Dieter was then able to destroy Bandit 4 with his scatterguns at knife range. Moser decided to dive to both recover energy and bait Bandits 2 and 3 into a maneuver they couldn’t recover from. As bandit 2 passed by Nixie was able to severely damage it’s superstructure with knife range machine gun fire. Bandits 2 and 3 were both tricked into following the dive, and broke up under the strain of trying to pull out. With all enemy aircraft accounted for Dav was forced to return to Schuntertissen due to fuel shortages, Nixie and Kieme landed to recover proof of their victories while Moser flew cover from the air. Nixie was able to experience a Moment of Beauty when she stumbled across a deer in a glade. The Kompanie was then reunited in Schuntertissen. The pilot of the transport plane thanked the pilots for their assistance, and promised he would spread word of their professionalism and heroics (Fame +1). Bürgermeisterin Katja Weissmuller paid them 18 Þ for the task. The pilots then engaged in vice until morning. Nixie established a friendship with brothel madam Helge and became addicted to music. Moser drank quietly in the hanger. Dav got drunk and had casual sex before going stargazing. Attempts by Nixie to establish trust with her fellow pilots had mixed results, as Moser appreciated the gift she bought him but Dav was offended by her choice of words due to a cultural misunderstanding. Reflections and Contract Negotiation to follow.

Routine 2
Schuntertissen Bürgermeisterin Katja Weissmuller offered the Kompanie 21 Þ to bomb hangars at an abandoned pre-war airfield which she had determined was the home of the bandit group first encountered in the previous session. The pilots opted for a low level dawn raid, mounting a mixture of high explosive and incendiary munitions on Nixie and Dev’s aircraft with Moser taking top cover. The bandit group was not surprised, but were only able to get two fighters airborne to defend their base which were still climbing when the attack began. Nixie dived early, landed a solid burst of machine gun fire on one bandit as she passed, and began a level run across the target area. While the run was very successful with all 5 bombs on hitting their targets, her Moewe was struck by fire from ground based machine guns and suffered damage to it’s control surfaces before it could get clear. Dev opted to stay high and attempt a dive-bomb which rendered the ground fire ineffective and helped get his bombs on target, but put significant strain on his airframe that rendered him unable to re-engage. Moser engaged the enemy fighters but lacked the energy to effectively offensively dogfight them, having started at the same altitude as the others. In return they were unable to noticeably damage his plane. Nixie took a final shot with her precision rifle that struck the pilot of one enemy plane and then flew into a flock of birds, causing a low level spin that she barely recovered from. The circus were able to disengage without suffering further damage and could treat the mission as a success. Back on the ground Moser had a really great night and everything was fine, but Nixie and Dev both ended up needing medical attention after she got food poisoning from uncooked freshwater shellfish and he got punched in the face for being a jerk to an enormous farmboy.

Lessons: the Wunderflugzueg desperately needs an energy advantage before it starts fights, because with that unreliable engine boosting is a terrible idea.

I didn't use the stay on target clock because this was a straightforward attack, imagine doing that run only it takes 4 actions to set up the attack, with flak and actual fighter cover threatening you the whole time.

Routine 3: posted:

Cargo pilot Anna Schultz requests an escort from Schuntertissen to Rotstadt in order to hand her transport over to Gemeinschaft Trading Ko, who she owes a series of debts she is unable to service after her disastrous mission and the loss of her co-workers. Moser and Nixie are able to assist her, with Dev’s injury causing him to rise late and miss the takeoff. The flight is initially smooth, but as the Kompanie approaches Rotstadt they are jumped by two Rathnau 9Cs bearing diamond roundels. Their initial pass is a failure, leaving both pilots in a position to catch them head on as they climb back into position. Nixie fires rockets that scorch her target before Kieme manages a clean rifle shot on the pilot. The out of control plane collides with Nixie’s Moewe and disintegrates, leaving minor damage to one float. Moser is able to first nearly cripple his opponent’s engine in one burst, avoid collision, and then get back on their tail and fire again. The damage prompts the enemy to surrender and they are forced to land at Rotstadt after their engine gives out. The pilot (Hanz) spins a tale of woe about being in a failing Circus that got trapped in a hostile town and being reduced to banditry, and accepts the loss of his plane in exchange for his life. He is immediately re-hired as an attendant for the company. Anna grudgingly signs away her transport to the trade consortium, but the agent tries to refuse payment on legalist grounds. Nixie persuades him to cough up, but there may be trouble later especially as Anna hires on with Flaschenfeuer and holds a grudge. Attempts to relax after the flight are a failure, with Dev’s balloon delivery of fresh produce the only bright note in the afternoon. Moser reveals that the book they are often reading is not written in Gottisch! Nixie’s attempts to purchase anything in the town are stymied by a combination of a tightly controlled economy and racism. Rotstadt is rapidly becoming a curse word for the Kompanie.
