Honestly, with how Wall Market turned out in this game, at that point I'd just have Square-Enix ask Sega if they could do a "Yakuza: Gold Saucer" collaboration.

Yeah, Remake Sephiroth is an infinitely more compelling character than OG Sephiroth. I can't explain how and why without going into spoilers, but it's fantastic.

Yeah, the balance of this thread is going to be very difficult considering the Elentor is playing blind.

What I feel like it is, is that with a change like this, it's very possible to poison your view of the game early on and people who've seen what comes are keen that people who haven't encountered the game yet not lose out.

I should note that I’m not talking about plot spoilers, I’m speaking metatextually about why Nomura and co. made the choices they did with the remake and that assigning motivations to the dev team might be unwise, given the very specific things they’ve said.

He’s actually quoting Zack, or at least some variation of what Zack said to Cloud in the original game. That’s the reason Cloud gets so pissed at him and tries to kill him.

I have maintained from the beginning that if the point of Remake is to re-create not the exact game the FF7 was, but the experience that it felt like, there was no way to do it without specifically loving with the player's head and making them confused. That confusion and unease represents an integral part of what made FF7 what it was, and you could not replicate that if you just made a pretty version of the original game. It would rely on nostalgia at that point, instead of giving you a second opportunity to experience that feeling, and I appreciate that they did it how they did rather than taking the easy way out.

Update 10 - Flowers

Previous Next

After Sephiroth' apparition there's another segment where we go by more NPCs. I was like "wow they really, really put effort into this."

I'm sorry.

You understood perfectly well my thought process here, don't pretend that you didn't.

She's a maniac, maniac, on the floor.

And she's dancing like she's never danced before.

Sephiroth: "Not even yourself."

Okay so I had uh, quite a long time to digest this scene.

We knew about it before the game was released.

So I was reading my original LP, just really looking at all the effort I put into it.

In my original LP I avoided writing filler chapters. This made the thing take four years.

Some of the later chapters I'd just take a month until I could find the proper inspiration because I wanted the entire product to be good. And in that sense, I'm happy, because I like how it ended. I'm glad that by the end the final chapters didn't read like I was rushing things.

Now, I don't want to go all self-referential, but this game is self-referential too. I keep pondering about it time and time again.

I've been thinking about what to write about this chapter from before the game was released even, because we saw this scene in the trailers.

There is something different that I'm feeling when I'm playing this game-

I don't think I have nostalgia for the original, but I have strong associations between it and events that happened in the past. I suppose this is the key difference: These are not events that I remember fondly.

There is however, no past to talk about when it comes to this game. There's only the present. And the tales that I told, the links that I made between Midgar and the favelas, they were, at the time, in my past and thus we could all dissociate from them.

And it is a weird present.

And in that way, I suppose that weird tone matches the game, and it's probably a present that would be fun to read when spoken to in the past tense. Uhhm Squall would hate it.

I like Cloud's attitude in general here. I don't mind Aeris being open about her "depends on the customer" reveal since we're meant to know it already and she's giving the flower for free.

Also Aerith being patronizing here is adorable.

I mean, it makes sense. From her point of view, Cloud shouldn't really pose a threat any more than, say, the threats she faces daily.

Like the Turks, and so on.

I don't know, there's something charming about that.

DANCE! Woo!

Nothing left for me to do but dance!

Off these bad times I'm going through just dance.

Eyes are usually concave, not convex. This is amplified by the refraction from the Iris. This is also why opaque contact lenses can look weird if you're paying attention: The pupil now stays at the front of the eye.

In traditional models, you might notice that a lot of eyeballs are sculpted with the irises as concave objects. In FF7R, this is achieved through a parallax effect. The eye is modeled as a convex object, but the texture of the iris and pupil are pulled back in based on their angle with regards to the camera. This makes them look like little craters, as they should.

Right, so Spooky Ghosts at a distance. I had to digest that. There's now dementors in this game and they look like Langoliers.

My theory before the game was released was that they were actual literal Langoliers, because I've never seen a media do Langolier fake outs.

So these are the thoughts I posted before the game was out: Jessie survives (or that's an optional side-quest), Sephiroth is showing up because he found ways to mess up with time or saw that in the original timeline things go pear-shaped, Langoliers are Langoliering and they are here to prevent weird time changes.

Since then I got a lot of WINK WINKs regarding these theories so I'm assuming at least one of them is somewhat right and that this game is the Encore Mode of FF7.

I just hope the plot doesn't literally involve a Time Materia. But I don't know. It makes sense that things revolve around Sephiroth shenanigans, considering his leitmotif playing during the opening, and so on.

As for my reaction, I don't know. It's a bit of a limbo.

Before the game was released I just really wanted a remake. By the time I played it, I had had some time to digest this scene, so it wasn't like OH MY GOD!!! I'm still on Chapter 3 waiting for the LP to catch up so my current mood, and the mood in which I'll play the game with relation to this scene is: Alright, game, surprise me.

Also: lol

Just wanted to add on to what you've theorized in this latest update.

So I mentioned previously about the BGM that plays right after that first confrontation between Sephiroth and Cloud. When I first heard it, I thought it sounded familiar, so I tried searching for the title of that track, which I only discovered once the full OST was out. To my surprise, it was actually a remix of this track from Advent Children.

The devs put that particular track at that point of this game for a reason (and there are no other AC tracks in this game AFAIK), and the prevailing theory I alluded to earlier springs from that.
