I wanna speak up for early game skirmishers. Specifically, their ability to yank an enemy over TOWARD you is invaluable on the first mission because under normal circumstances getting close enough to have a near guaranteed shot at the enemy means activating the second pod with the officer.

Oh hey just like the LW LP, first contract is overwatch taking out an enemy squad against all odds. Is there something that needs tweaking in your capture/encoding setup, or are the textures on console really blocky and smoothed out compared to PC?

Well, I'm not dead! I was scared as gently caress when I saw myself on the first mission, because I thought it was going to play out like the tutorial in the base game where one of your dudes always seems to die. Are sharpshooters really that bad? Much like the previous game, I don't know the mechanics of this one much either, just that I'm sure I remember there being a decent sniper or two in Dan & Grace's WOTC drinking game LP.

LOL that advent guy going full stormtrooper was peak XCOM. What an awful map, you hate to see that especially in the early game where you can't afford losing mission objectives or soldiers. And that flank move that turned out to not flank was really weird. I would 100% have made the same move without checking it, that's a textbook corner flanking position that I think should have just worked. I think you're correct that the problem has to be that ladder being there, those things are mega strange even for this game. Good job surviving the funlancer ambush, I might have dealt with that one with an alt-F4. I don't usually get angry at video games, but this one is just angry at the player sometimes.

Sharpshooters have their uses. Once FairGame has some better toys at his disposal, and his Sharpshooters have a few levels under their belts, they can become incredibly deadly. It's a combination of skills and gear. But you could make that argument about any of the classes really. Even Specialists, yet Sharpshooters have some spectacular tricks up their sleeves. That reinforcement pod, though. Utter bullshit.

What a nightmare of a mission. I understand why they put timers on everything, but they're often so incredibly tight that you can't use actual tactics; you just have to sprint directly towards the objective and hope the RNG puts the enemies in good places and lets your shots land.

Sharpshooters got hit with a nerf hammer real bad after XCOM 1, where they were the best class by far. Here they are unimpressive in the early game, where they get stuck on some roof taking ~60% potshots at enemies they're lucky enough to see. Later they are capable of incredible burst damage, but it tends to be kinda situational when what you want is consistency. The pistol side is more consistent, but then you're spending a lot of resources developing pistols that nobody else really wants to use. The Specialist Aid Protocol move is actually very very strong. On the tin it just gives 20 defense, which means that enemies get -20% hit chance. Doesn't sound that exciting. However, the enemy AI really hates taking low chance shots. The actual protection you get from Aid Protocol is that the enemies will choose to shoot somebody else instead. What you really want from a Specialist though, is for somebody to become a very good hacker. Getting there is very RNG based, but the dividends are fantastic.

If it's not a bother can I get my guy's voice changed to one of the UK ones? I think UK 1 is the good one while 2 is horrible but either will do (3 and 4 are Scottish and Irish iirc) Thank you
