My favorite bit was the first lensman going around recruiting different aliens to become lensmen. The stories take a real hard turn eventually where the latest protagonist develops mind-control and makes a whole base full of space-pirates take off their helmets and inhale turbo space-cocaine and die. The lenses were so much more fun when they just did telepathy and explicitly required consent. I like how the author always uses "nor," as in "Nor were his laser beams without effect!" |
