When I was a younger I used to think how cool it would be if Westwood would update Red Alert 2. Years later we've got a different squad that rewrote the engine for modern systems, which includes enhancements to the skirmish system, maps, graphics, and player controls such as attack vs. defense stances. Active git community and cross platform.

Recently found out about C&C Remastered. Stoked as all hell, and now this.
Really cool that Petroglyph got in touch with the crew from OpenRA and let them not only have an input in Remastered but also open-sourced game files for modders.
e: ... and for OpenRA's usage!

Great watch on the development process behind Remastered:

Lots of stuff is covered including getting the community involved (now I know who!), the beautification of the original FMVs (they did absolute magic with those) and the decisional process behind remastering vs. remaking.

I bought c&c remastered only to realise 5 mins in that it was Tiberium Sun/RA2 that I had nostalgia for.

Grid Move, which lets you create templates for how to organise windows on the screen, such as stacking several windows on top of each other using maximum horizontal space.
I started using it just because there was no quick way to maximise a window horizontally in windows 10, which was awkward when watching videos and taking notes on a single monitor.

Idk if this has been mentioned, but I love WindowTop for when I'm watching videos and studying or whatever and I can just pin a video and make it kind of see through right ontop of a game I'm playing or whatever.

Is there software for downloading YouTube videos that lets you edit/clip the video as well? My current workflow of downloading a 10+ minute clip, booting up a separate video editor, waiting for it to load said clip, and then waiting again for it to export the selection is inefficient to say the least and a quick search at websites are mostly either broken or watermark the output.

You can combine youtube-dl and ffmpeg.

i prefer to take a look at a clip in avidemux first
if the start of your cut can land on a keyframe you can keep all the quality and save a lot of time not having re-encode video

Breakaway Audio Enhancer - https://store.claessonedwards.com/product_p/bap-003.htm

Tired of movies where the dialog is inaudible unless you turn up the volume so high the action scenes wake your neighbors? Are footsteps too quiet in games, leading you to get snuck up on and murdered? One guy in the voice chat is way too loud? This software is an adjustable compressor that can turn up quiet sounds and normalize very loud sounds so you are no longer at the mercy of modern audio mixing. My only regret is that it's not available in receivers and streaming boxes and the like - Windows 10 only. It's really easy to setup and has presets or you can fiddle to your hearts content. Highly recommended, and very few people seem to even know it's possible or available.

This thing is utterly fantastic, thanks!

But is there a way to toggle between my speakers and headset without having to click five times to change it?

Is there any modern software that plays music and has really nice and varied visualizations? I'm thinking of Winamp and the plugin system from like 2004-2006 maybe?

You can skin foobar2000 and set it up in a way that mimics like 95% of Winamp's UI and functionality. But foobar2000 kind of sucks in usability compared to modern music apps like Dopamine and MusicBee since foobar2000's UI and design principles are very stuck in the early 2000s imo.

Here's a real answer, if you want to deal with foobar: https://appuals.com/how-to-get-milkdrop-2-visualisations-in-foobar/

I've mentioned this before in this thread, but foobar has album shuffle. I cannot overstate how necessary this is. Others may also have album shuffle, but I've used foobar for a year and I'm not switching again.

I just use current Winamp and line in the audio from my preferred audio player. Works pretty well, but I’m always open to alternatives. It’s a drat shame Spotify ripped out their visualizer a while back.
