I'm skating very, very carefully around this because English law is extremely dodgy about providing info about suicide methods, so I'll just say yes, this is something that has been thought about and methods exist.

Assisted suicide methods tend to be proper medical processes though. Partly because if you're getting an actual doctor to do it you might as well go all out, partly because someone with, say, advanced ALS will not have the dexterity to handle a DIY method - that's the whole point of the "assisted" bit.

The latest Google mobility report - which refers to last weekend - shows a marked increase in activity across the country.
It said visits to parks were only 10% below normal, while they were around 50% lower at the beginning of the lockdown."

Quite aside from the legal aspect of posting about this, I wouldn't post about this. Some of the methods are surprisingly easy and accessible, and once you know them you can't really un-learn them, which isn't great if you (or anyone else who saw the post) is a person who might at some point be at risk of attempting suicide.

The Darien scheme was so loving dumb I kind of love it. It's like they heard about the idea of colonies from a friend of a friend going, "Oh yeah you can sell beads and poo poo to the natives and get gold for nothing, it's great," so everyone packed off with boats full of powdered wigs they were sure the natives would be falling over themselves to buy. Then they all died of malaria and poo poo and Scotland was so embarrassed it ceased to be a country.

If more colonisers were like Scotland the world would be a better place! :scotland:

So a care home in my area made the papers a few days ago because 17 of its residents have died, 2 confirmed of COVID-19 but the rest died before tests could be administered.

Last night they decided to hold a party outside with a free ice cream van, supported by Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Police Team and not adhering to social distancing whatsoever. They then decided to share this video on Facebook, only taking it down and making their page private when loads of people left negative comments about what a stupid loving thing it was to do.

This country.

Oh and why yes, Middlesbrough *does* have one of, if not the highest infection rate in the country :downs:

if that's true then what's even the point in extending the lockdown? Clearly we can't hack it, and it's not like the government will make things more restrictive

It's a pretty disingenuous statistic as parks are the place you'd expect to see the least decrease (or potentially even an increase) in footfall a result of people actually following the rules.

The graphs on the actual report show no meaningful increase in footfall at retail, grocery & pharmacy, transit stations, or workplaces.

Going to a park is an allowed activity for everyone but the extremely vulnerable. It's a low risk one too.

Opening up schools, in contrast, would spread the virus like mad.

yeah, you're right, my mind kind of glazed over the whole 'parks' thing, of course that's to be expected

but the government are definitely still half-arsing this

EDIT I really wasn't trying to actually argue for ending the lockdown - as my recent posts will attest - it was more of a rhetorical 'if this isn't working, what do?' question. But it seems it is working, or at least people are sticking to it Apologies all

Last time I made some it came to about a quid per 2 litres of very drinkable 14% fizzy fruit wine. You can even use empty 2 litre pop bottles to hold it

Orrr just make proper cider. Take apple juice without preservatives, add some kind of brewing yeast (I like champagne), wait. It's literally how you make even the non-prison kind of cider; no boiling or hops or w/e to worry about.
