Relevant to recent events, if y'all haven't seen the movie Walker with Ed Harris it's pretty wild - a biopic of the most 'successful' filibuster William Walker, filmed on location in Nicuragua during the Contras War as a satire/indictment of US Latin American policy.

LtCol J. Krusinski posted:Loverro’s departure has nothing to do with this mission or its safety. The best guess from industry/news sources is he violated procurement rules in the break neck race to get back to the moon by 2024. He said specifically that his resignation had nothing to do with DM-2. Having some experience with the matter I definitely wouldn't put much stock in the whole "I just wanted to make sure we got to the Moon as quickly as possible!" defense, either. He's got a bunch of lucrative side gigs with various parts of the aero/defense industry and I'm sure none of that played a part.

In light of the whole 'why riot?', reminder that the initially peaceful protests on the first day were almost immediately met with tear gas and pepper spray. There's not much room to keep things civil if the authorities start ratcheting up the tension and attack demonstrators.

It feels like there's way more 'mainstream' support for the current protests than what ended up happening at Ferguson. I'm hoping it means the years of effort are finally starting to pay off and it's not just a temporary thing.

There was a confrontation outside the White House a little while ago where some DC cops grabbed a guy out of the crowd and then got chased into the Freedman Bank Building, it's quieted down a little now but there's a good sized crowd in Lafayette Square. edit - livestream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjR4jD7uusc
