“Cutting Moments” by Douglas Buck. It’s a gory mess with FX by Tom Savini. The story of a wife trying to stop her husband from molesting their child. According to the behind the scenes, Douglas Buck listened to PJ Harvey’s “Rub it Till it Bleeds” while showering every morning during film school and thought up the story. It was released in a trilogy of shorts called “Family Portraits: Trilogy of America” but you can find it all over the internet. The whole trilogy is worth watching if you don’t mind lower budget films. I really enjoyed the last episode “Prologue,” a bleak short with zero gore but plenty of disturbing themes. Trigger Warning for all his stuff (outside of his later Troma work.) lots of themes around abuse, molestation, assault, rape and family dysfunction; though thankfully most is not shown on screen. Cutting Moments does have some spectacularly uncomfortable gore that they don’t cut away from nearly quick enough.
