Who else loves punk rock? What qualifies as punk? Some say it ended in the 80s. I disagree but I see where they are coming from.
Favorite punk bands?

A few of mine in no particular order...
Dead Kennedys
Bad Religion
Social Distortion
Green Day
Operation Ivy
Screeching weasel

I'm also a fan of cowpunk which combines country music with punk/rock. Example would be the Swinging Udders. I also like Art Alexakis' band before Everclear, Colorfinger:

When I was in middle school I tried to dress like a punk and I used to skateboard but I sucked at it. Anyway there was another girl at school who always called me a poseur and we were mortal enemies. Now decades later we like each others posts on facebook because of our similar politics and sense of humor. I thought she was the poseur btw. Becuase her family had money and mine didn't and I knew she bought all her poo poo from the mall when I had to make do with hand me downs and walmart.

Well anyway post your punk thoughts y'all!

Edit - there is also a separate thread for Ska if that's more your thing!

i like nofx

ribbed is severely underrated. white trash, two heebs, and a bean is drat near perfect. punk in drublic is obviously rock solid

their new stuff since war on errorism isn't as good though, but burkette still has some winners, plus he references all his favorite bands/albums in a couple songs which makes it easy to look them up and listen to them

I remember this skater used to call me a poseur all the time so i went home and stitched the word POSEUR on a long sleeved shirt and wore it to school and he didn't really know what to do after that. gently caress you, Sven.

I loved Bad Religion and Green Day in high school. I have been listening to Stranger Than Fiction lately, and Infected / 21st Century Digital Boy are just so clearly ahead of their time. And it's still funny to me that there are youngsters out there who know of nothing prior to American Idiot.

I want to be a cowboy. I was born to be a cowboy.

I used to like punk rock a lot but my tastes have evolved. I still listen to some NOFX and other poo poo like that occasionally. Bad Religion is good as heck, probably the most important punk rock band in my view because it made being educated a viable punk outlet. I think Greg Graffin being a peer-reviewed published author and singer in a punk band is a pretty cool intersecitonality.

Kicker - Lager and Chips
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSlHdtghU3c

These guys always manage to tear the house down, and they'll the nicest people you'll ever meet. Their current drummer is Dave Mello of Operation Ivy. I met the lead singer, Pete The Roadie, at a Jello Biafra show years ago, and shortly after I learned of this band. They pour 100% of their energy into every set. Their most recent album has a song called Mrs. Arnold, a teacher that tormented Pete as a kid. She ended up serving life in prison for murdering the wife and child of a fellow teacher, with whom she was having an affair.
