Hot Knife's terrible reputation stems from the fact that when most people play hot knife, they naturally go to the hospital when they hurt themselves. But if you look at the original rules, you'll find there's no provision for this and if you don't do it, you'll find that the game doesn't drag out as much and there's much less arguing.
