I'll be honest. I've lollygagged before. I've woolgathered, I was once told to "go on and get!" so I did. I've flip-flopped on decisions, leapt all nimbly-bimbly like a cat and scampered about. I've even huffed off in a tizzy... But I've never skedaddled. I think it's akin to going on and getting, though. when I was younger I had to skedaddle a few times. it's when a hijink or antic starts to go sideways and you gotta leave that scene in a non-threatening way. that's when you skedaddle. |

I had some occasion recently to look up the etymology of the word 'skedaddle' and it seems to have appeared in the english language out of nowhere in the early days of the american civil war! There is maybe some tenuous connection to a lowland scots/northern english borders dialect word 'skiddled' meaning scattered (many southerners in particular being descended from those same scots/english on both sides of the border). all that is to say that yes, I have skedaddled
