I went Cronenberg/Miike, even though I'm not necessarily eager to watch that final. For me, Rabid had the more interesting ideas, even if those themes are arguably done better by Cronenberg elsewhere. Lair of the White Worm seems pretty thin to me, and I don't find it all that fun. Of course, on the other side of the vote I went for the lighthearted and shallower piece, but that largely was due to my feeling that Yuzna just didn't direct his film in a way that meshes together. Cronenberg had the good sense to end it when his primary character & patient zero for the outbreak died.

 Miike had to draw this as he still had unviewed films in the chamber. Russell gets all three of his other films as the finals options. I used random.org to pick the order for each side.  Each director gets their most accessible and crowd-pleasing work I guess in Ichi the Killer and Altered States?  Finally Over Your Dead Body stacks up against Gothic. Who will win? I don't know! That's why we do the votes! Voting ends 10/7, and for ALL TIME! Time to VOTE AND END THIS!

Before seeing As the Gods Will, I think these matchups represent a victory for Miike. It could come down to Over Your Dead Body vs Gothic as the tiebreaker.

drat, out of these I've only seen The Devils and Ichi. I have so much to watch! I'm pretty excited about this matchup - Rabid was a tough draw for Cronenberg last round, so this is about what I expected. Guess I have my next 4 horror challenge movies picked out!

Of the repeats that's 4 films I didn't enjoy but I think I'd go Altered States over Ichii and Over Your Dead Body over Gothic. I'm willing to rewatch Gothic sine Deb asked us all too but then I gotta rewatch OYDB too and meh. I have no interest in rewatching Ichii and States. I got better/new films to watch. I've never seen As The Gods Will so I guess I'll track that one down if there's no stream. Devils isn't "soft" but I don't love it so Miike's still got a chance for me.

It's fascinating to me that the final is between two directors with such eclectic bodies of work, and all the horror specialists are gone. The nature of the tournament is probably too random to draw any conclusion from that, but I never would have expected it at the start.

That's really a bad draw for Miike but Russell doesn't have any strong contenders except for The Devils.. Altered States is good but not better than Ichi and Gothic is kind of a wet fart.

Devils I'd give over Gods but I think it's super appropriate that that is what goes up against each other. Otherwise Miike's got a pretty clear victory going forward. If this had been Lair VS Audition though, God I don't know what I would have done
