Christian Flag? do you mean this one?

I've never actually seen or heard of this flag before.

i see i've already been beaten by the :goonsay: squad, but the flag here was created in an attempt to make an ecumenical pan-christianity flag

Catholics, Orthodox, Baptists, Anabaptists, Lutherans, Calvinists, Mormons, Methodists, Nestorians, Quakers, Jehova's Witnesses, Moravians, Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Evangelicals all count as christian, and while people may have big disagreements in doctrine and really care about distinguishing between different denominations, they all share similar origins and some key beliefs.

I think some people consider themselves just "Christian" without really acknowledging their denomination, and so they try lashing out pretty hard on denominations that they see as extra-alien. Others are still salty about schisms. Whatever.

I think it only really gets confusing when you find the few edge cases like Messianic Jews.

this post got a bunch of real basic stuff wrong, so i suggest nobody rely on it, but i also feel like a big effort post reply to it would be getting off topic, so i will just explain the main points

the biggest problem with the post is that it doesn't consider the beliefs of the people it is all lumping together: one of the basic things you have to do when talking about religious sects is to consider how the adherents of each sect think about themselves in relation to other sects. the second biggest problem is that the post says it's "not confusing" to lump in Nestorians, Mormons, and Jehova's Witnesses with the more traditional groups, which, just, lol

It's always amusing that Christians are still mad about Baal, when his worship died out something like 2200 years ago. But the Old Testament is older than that so the fundamentalists haven't gotten the memo basically.

sorry if i am interrupting the :goonsay: convention again itt but i am pretty sure that this is incorrect, and that the vast majority of christians do not actively beliebe Baal worship still exists

I don't think any of these finalist flags are very iconic to Minnesota as a whole, none of them really seem very iconic in their own right or have all that much symbolism to the land of lakes.

They're inoffensive enough that flag nerds will be happy, and maybe over time the Minnesotans will grow into one of these as a symbol.

There's a lot of nice looking Texas ripoff flags out there though. That flag gives at least some nice colors to play around with. That or the squiggle flag would really stand out among other flags at least. The squiggle is a very neat visualization of a river.

But I don't think Minnesota is known for rivers. They're known for their lakes.

the symbolism is that minnesota is the headwaters of the Mississippi river, which is an extremely important body of water throughout the history of this land. i don't know if i like that flag overall but its symbolism of the Mississippi and the Northern Lights is spot on

the river was important before europeans showed up too, so it also has some symbolism in trying to say "oops" for the turbo racist current flag

the one downside to the swoop flag, for me personally, is that it reminds me of the logo of a small town casino in northern minnesota

Minnesota is also looking to redesign its seal, and only one of the finalists is any good.

The North Star seems like a weird obsession because there's 7 other states about as north and 2 further north.

the state motto of minnesota is "L'Étoile du Nord"

and the only state further north is alaska, which didn't become a state until 100 years later
