I mean, while we're having a meta thread to discuss the future it's probably worth also talking about the problems people have been having with the community. I appreciate that once people talked about hornyposting a 12th time with the backdrop of all the poo poo coming out about wrestling something actually happened, but overall moderation in this subforum has been way too hands off and permissive of some frankly gross posting.

You end up with the community you foster, and if the community as-is right now was supplanted elsewhere I'm not 100% sure I'd bother following it.

Sorry you feel this way. What sort of things do you think are problematic? I'd like to know if I'm doing it so I can change & be better as a person.

And I know putting this on you really sucks but it's just I feel like your Fight Island experience is so different to mine that I don't even know where to start.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem at the moment is people who aggressively shout down whenever people share their concerns, followed up by people who joke and shitpost through it. We saw it a lot in the posts linked as evidence during the discussion in the #SpeakingOut thread.

If a community's culture is going to become/stay non-toxic, people need the room to raise concerns without feeling like they're going to get poo poo on for doing so. Clearly that's not been provided up til now.

Perhaps we should should have a specific feedback/issues thread that's regulated against shitposting and such where people can have these discussions with the mods?

I honestly would just prefer if mods actually did their jobs properly and handled these issues in-situ. It doesn't take many sixers for people to get the message that certain poo poo doesn't fly here, but time and time again the mod staff in here have been unwilling to a fault to take action.

I know this is a selfish thing to think about and a question nobody may be able to answer but would there be an easy way of archiving content? I'm really proud of the Hulkamania PPV thread I did a few years back and I don't want that to get lost into the ether.

You'd probably have to write a quickie script to do it due to being paywalled, but it's not particularly difficult - each post is in its own <table> element, you can get a username out of the <dt class="author"> of the <td class="userinfo"> element and then the post body out of the <td class="postbody"> element.

It's just a case of putting a couple hours in to properly script logging into SA and crawling each page of a thread getting the information out of those elements.

Bread and Roses if I'm not mistaken is going to be the CSPAM offshoot - we welcome all comrades, but I don't know if it'll have anything besides socialism chat

Death Valley Driver is a good bet for an active wrestling forum

We could always take over an abandoned board like TheSmartMarks (which was the proto WrestleHut - it was originally Scott Keith's board):

https://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php

Problem is, unless an admin shows up, there wouldn't be moderation - and if we crash the site with bandwidth use I doubt anyone will pay up to fix it

ZandigFans still has a dedicated community of Philly/NJ indy fans, but it's not as active anymore - it's run by good people

There's absolutely no reason to brigade a random dead forum, they're not exactly hard to set up.

Oh no doubt it's obvious, anyone with half a drop of empathy can see what's going on. I just hope that if any people are convinced by this that nothing wrong happened, that they're small in number and are told to gently caress off

Good news, they're small in number and being told to gently caress off

I just looked and one of the ban reasons is calling a trans person transphobic, which is a little out there.

Yeah that was extremely gross

well i joined SA for the community not because of lowtax. i kinda like the vibe at b+r so far so imma keep posting there, and whatever off-site the mods come up with and promote, i'll join that one too, it'll be like its 2002 again with all the message boards i can join :)

This is exactly how I'm gonna do it. Lash myself to as many lifeboats as possible and just see where I end up thinking has the best vibe

Well, there was the whole nazi mod debacle and Jeffrey didn't exactly cover himself with glory handling that. So I'd personally prefer if we held the admins' feet to the fire to make sure that they don't start doing stupid poo poo again.

I've also been really unhappy with his desire to reinstate FYAD - it went away for a really good reason and I'm not convinced it can just go back wholesale without immediately going back to being a big transphobic mess.
