The main melody to King Kong by Frank Zappa has been stuck in my head for awhile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1ZapVqxcug It's one of Zappa's finest compositions, and it's got some insane live versions. This one is excellent and bonkers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToQWHNFZ2RE

The One Night Stand remix of Apostle of Hustle's "Haul Away" comes unbidden to my mind every so often... and it's back... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11BRXlAPCxI I originally heard it on an Arts and Crafts sampler CD years ago, but then I lost the CD and couldn't find it online. Lucky for me, this time I was able to find an upload, so

The Spellbound - はじまり(Beginning) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUeU_6DoL_4 Masayuki Nakano was the programmer/bassist of 90s Japanese synthrock two-piece Boom Boom Satellites. Their last release was in 2016 a few months before the band's other half, singer/guitarist Michiyuki Kawashima died of a brain tumor. The Spellbound is Nakano's new band, who just released their debut album last week.

Is there a thread in this sub specifically for the discussion of the songwriting and narrative aspects of any given song/music video? I've had Save Your Tears in my head for a few days now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXYlFuWEuKI Great music, the lyrics are fine but not particularly deep. Aside from the eternal hard on I have for synth-pop, the aspect of this song that resonates with me is the video's narrative. Lyrically this guy is talking about how he does some lovely things and he doesn't know why. Yeah he'd like to stay in the relationship but he knows he probably hosed that up at this point. It's all very goony. Then we get to the end of the song and the video reveals how lovely he feels about himself, trying to force the lady to put him out of his misery. She doesn't (I think) and dude is all by himself at the end. Then he pulls a lowtax and shoots himself. BUT! It's a performance. The whole thing has been a performance. Was the relationship even real? Who cares, everybody loves it. They just LOVE your misery! Anyway, you wouldn't catch any of this by just hearing the song. It's a good song, but the video offers so much more. This kind of detail doesn't seem right ITT, is there a thread for it or do I need to make one?
