And yeah, it's kind of amazing that it took them over a dozen games to make bows not trash.

I'm not sure it throws the balance that much. The crit is nice, of course, but it's too uncertain to rely on by itself, and Ross is strong and has axes so he'll most likely kill things he can double anyway. It becomes fairly reliable by the time you have killer axes, but that's fairly late in the game (and at that point your good units are probably strong enough to steamroll with just iron anyway).

Going Journeyman - Pirate - Berserker gives a total of +2 speed promotion, same as Warrior - Hero. I won't argue that he does take a bit of favoritism to get going, and ultimately likely isn't that great because of that. The big sinker is that it takes the extra work to be somewhat comparative to Garcia, and Garcia isn't actually a great unit. They get poo poo on by the lords and saviors of the cavalry brigade. I don't know why they decided that Fighters in the GBA series are always inferior overall honestly.

Combination of residual Kaga and overvaluing the power of axes when designing characters I suspect. I don't know why you would, they're not that much stronger than other weapons considering their accuracy and their usual user's poo poo speed/skill, but there it is.

Of course, the proper way to Fire Emblem is to use whatever units you hecking want and ignore the power level discussion entirely <- not a colossal hypocrite!

He suffers from no horse, but hes a beast that tramples the early game and still puts out late game.

That wasn't actually my point though, my point is that cavs aside, Boyd is the only axe user for a significant part of the game. Swords have Ike and all the myrmidons, lances have the flyers in addition to Nephenee. So if Boyd gets RNG-screwed, then you literally don't have an axe user that isn't a cav.

Vilk, if you're still hankering for FE 8 after this LP, I recommend the Sacred War hack. It's a balance/difficulty hack that does a lot of interesting things. It completely revises many of the maps, tweaks items and includes some new ones specific to certain classes changes growths and base stats, revises the promotion tree a little bit so the Trainees can have their Super option right away with further promotion possibilities (if you go Trainee-->Trainee for Amelia you can then promote her a second time to either Paladin or Dragon Lord!) and gives each class an inherent ability.* Most of the changes are great in my opinion, especially the change to buff weapon uses, average 30-50 (including the regalia!) and better post-game. That said, it isn't all upside and some of the changes are for the worse (sages are buffed while leaving Mage Knights with only minimal tweaks to compensate, bows are still significantly worse than other weapon classes, for some unknown reason they implemented FE 4-style fixed weapon ranks based on the user's class, etc.). Still though, it would make for a very interesting LP with your signature flair. * The most hilarious is for the Ranger, who gets auto-Vantage (i.e. they always attack first).

I don't know why I keep watching these considering how painful it is to watch someone force themselves to do nothing but Bows. It is if nothing else a demonstration of how softball the entire game is that you can cut your offensive power down to only the characters who can only use the worst physical option in the game and still be mostly fine (if slow) in doing so.

With him having six levels and a promotion boost on her, sure, but...  If i could have promoted her at the point where i benched her, she'd only be one point of magic behind him, but also +1 movement from valkyrie (and the other stats barely matter, i guess she couldn't tank as well as him, for the ~2 times that has been relevant, but on the other hand she'd have better res already.)
