I replaced the oil in my brakes for the first time last night as the lever started to travel all the way while I was out on a ride. I thought I would have a go as it would have to go to the shop anyway.
It went surprisingly well with no issues and seems fine on a ride today. But I'm just wondering what causes the oil to turn from pink to this grey/black color? There was quite a lot of it.

I'm trying to replace all my inter and outer cables for the first time on my old carbon GT grade bike. The cable for my front derailer goes under and up to a hole on near the BB.
It seems the outercable is stuck as I cant pull it out of the hole. I thought it would just be held in by pressure but it seems to be fixed in somehow? Any ideas?

Is the ferrule on the exit side possibly crimped onto the cable housing?

Does that part move or come out of the top if you pull up on it?

Alloy frame, but seems to be the same setup:

No mention of it being hard to pull the cable out, though they do confirm the boot functions as a cable housing stop.

Not to worry, got it out with the help of some pliers and wiggling it a bit :newlol: just didnt want to break anything.
Think it was wedged in there from all the crap over winter. Next step is give a deep clean so I can see what I'm doing...

How long do brifters last before they start to wear out?
Would ones that have done 25k start to be a bit sloppy ?
