I bought a nice cruiser cum cargo Bike that gets me round in style and comfy

Did a walk around video because there wasn't a review video online

https://youtu.be/DNLk_BB56FE

Got a very neat modular carrier system using carriage bolts and some woodshop skils

And I recently bought a road bike for $25

It will need a new chain shortly but at 25 dollars I won't complain

Rewrapped the bars in some cotton with a French whip and put a sexy flatbed on

I think it's at point of diminishing returns of adding things, the next step is a paintjob

That thing is dope

I can see myself living the recumbent life when the infrastructure improves a little bit around here

I have genuinely considered something like a Surrey car or two person enclosed e-velomobile for cargo/partner

Part of the beast here is that my city is just hilly by nature and the bikeways reflect this truth, additionalñy I like having 1-3 cubic feet of storage on my bikes, inherent to the setup.

I'm not sure if a recumbent is suited to this, I would need to rent one for a week and see

While are on topic of recumbents

I've seen some recumbents set up so that the drivetrain in part of the steering assembly

Is this really a thing?, It seems like it would unduly impact steering and cause other issues?

I'm getting a bike for my partner's sister

Got this bike for $25

Catch is...

Had to cycle 10km to get there, and another ten wheeling this bike with a flat front

I've given everything a flush, oiled, turned screws, changed tubes and tyres etc

Come out pretty good, rides deceptively smooth, I'm just adding a trunk for groceries and it's away, probably some time next week

Edit

It's done!
Being delivered this evening

We doing cycle shopping loads?

This in my fortnightly (or so) shop on my cruiser cum cargo bike

My 1st gear is nowhere near low enough, but it's flat or downhill on the way home from the shops, it gets a bit squirrelly, but it's not a race to get home

Folding wire panniers loving rule

The plastic tub on the back is functionally weather proof with the lid on (though capacity is lessened), and the rainbow bag on the right does double duty as a waterproof load cover and shopping bag

:)

I picked this up today for 50 dollars

My endgame for bicycles is to have a tandem/cargo bike for day to day riding with the ability to easily get another human on the back if need be, as well as a frame that can carry the weight of groceries and such

And having that folder for when I just need to zip around or fit it in the back of the car

Jestery

Just got this nice basic tandem

My goal is to create a cargo bike for cheap, and to have a 10 minute, tool less conversion process between cargo and passenger mode
Think a more elegant and considered version of this

My bike is my primary transport method and previous bike, a converted step through beach cruiser,

is showing it's shortcomings , as my most recent haul was 55km

Which isn't a huge deal on a road bike, but on an undergeared upright bike, was quite a mission

So wish me luck and watch this space

Hell yeah weird bike buddy

I would love a recumbent if my local infrastructure supported it

I took the tandem out with a mate and had my/our first duo ride

It's such a different beast, way more communication than expected, but so much potential there

It's interesting, I don't have a dedicated stoker yet, I'm mostly using the fact it's designed to carry weight more than anything I'm just getting tired of my badly geared and wobbly cruiser, it is starting to feel like a wheelbarrow with handlebars , especially up the hills

it seems the way the algebra all works out a well made tandem gravel bike might actually be a nicer ride solo than my cheap and cheerful beach cruiser, and it can carry a passenger

In a year it might have some moustache bars and friction shifters, because brifters are weird and I just don't need the complexity , and I might make a bit of money selling off the bit I don't need

Only a 15km ride, but post covid, on a poorly geared cruiser bicycle and on lacking infra it was a fair ride

Slowly making progress on my tandem longtail project

Converted it to 1x and put a (massive) stem riser on because I'm a tall fucker

Had some normal Franken bike bullshit but the next step is to sort out the back end, I have a system on another bike that I really like , so I'm mostly out of the woods :)

I've heard the carbon frame thing is actually way good because it's closer , proportionally, to a child strength vs the weight of the bike

You could remove the rear pedals, but I guess you'd have to keep the drive side crank arm to keep the chain suspended, no?

This is correct, and I likely will later

Part of this build was to have it be easily swapped out between it's modes if I have need to carry a second person

This is super awesome. I've been considering doing something similar with a long tail cargo bike. How does it handle loaded? Does having stuff that high really screw with the CoG?

It is definitely a concern

But I've had it loaded up to around 30kg and that's about the weight limit I generally take. High center of gravity is just something to be aware of in this circumstance

Like if you were driving a Kei van around with a fridge on it , you might drive a bit slowly or more conservative

That's not a bad idea

However I am coming to the idea that very few people wish to huff my farts, so I might end up hacksawing and angle grinding the crank arms off

If my local craigslist is anything to go by, I think tandems can be kind of hard to sell, especially if they're priced high. It's also pretty niche, there's not that many people looking to ruin their relationship or get divorced because of a bike.
