Imo the downside to a FS at that pricepoint compared to a hardtail at the same pricepoint is you are getting worse components on the FS to work the rear suspension into the budget. Whether that is worth it is really down to your preference and the type of trails you are dealing with. That Giant's price is pretty much as cheap as a FS bike gets. It looks like its level of drivetrain etc is pretty similar to that hard tail so the price really is for that rear shock. You get tubeless ready rims on both which is nice. The biggest oversight though imo is the hardtail has a dropper and the FS does not. I really really really wouldn't get any trail bike without a dropper unless you are immediately going to add one. Something like a a oneup etc is a great option without being crazy expensive. That Giant frame has internal routing by the look of it for the cable.

I saw a really sweet idea on pinkbike the other day to wrap some duct tape around the handle of the pump. Could easly put a couple of feet around the handle without it being noticeable and very useful in a pinch. If you use black duct tape it wouldn't be obvious at all.

I recently had creaks that I was sure were coming form either my headset or BB. Turned out it was suspension pivot bolts. One thing that helped was flexing the bike sideways with my foot by pushing the pedal inwards while off the bike. Made it pretty obvious it was coming from the pivots in that case. After greasing them all it is gloriously quiet.

Finished my day of bike nerding in the garage. Got my Maxxis Aesagai DHR combo on to replace the Goodyear Newton ST I've had for the last year that are totally worn out. Looking forward to seeing what actually having center tread feels like again. I also put my new 180mm oneup dropper in to replace the 100mm KS that was stock on the bike. Its pretty awesome that with the oneup you can have a huge amount more extension for the same or less insertion depth. Now I can get the seat down as far as it possibly can go. I ended up shimming it down 10mm to 170mm which feels perfect. Its also so much faster than the KS as well which probably just needed a full overhaul but i'm happy. I have the ixs flow kneepads that have a fair amount of shin protection too. I of course managed to get one pedal bite above my sock and below the shin guard. But other than that they have been great.

I recently got a small torque wrench for regreasing all my suspension pivot bolts. I think it's worth it to know they are done up to the right amount of tight. My bike also finally does not creak on the climbs again. Win win. I just bought a basic 1/4" off of Amazon and it seems to do the job well enough.

After buying my bike with a worn out ks dropper having the one up on has been so good. Also the extra few inches of clearance has been awesome on the rowdy stuff.

poo poo dude that is loving brutal having your bike stollen. Awesome that the shop is helping you out for your trip. Bike theft is so bad in this region. Some dude got his bike jacked on fromme the other day while using the washroom. I actually zip tied the manual releases on my garage doors after some people in squamish had their bikes stolen out of their garages by people fishing the latches through the weatherstrip. I hope your insurance claim goes smoothly and the shop can get you a new bike soon.

I got a little Garmin 130 plus computer recently for the bike with a speed sensor for the wheel. I'm liking it a lot. Having the dedicated speed sensor is nice if the GPS is spotty. It's easy to import a route from trailforks etc when you want to know exactly how much the climb is going to suck and which trail junction to take.

I've got magura mt5s on my bike and I love them. Tons of power and easy to modulate. They sell a version with one finger levers now vs having to add those after the fact which is very much worth getting vs the standard two finger levers.

Recently snapped a chain for the first time half way up Eagle Mountain in BC. Used the edc chainbreaker in anger for the first time and it went pretty smoothly. I didn't have a spare quicklink so had to drop two links and then push the pin back in but it got the job done well. The chain was a little too short after this but I had a replacement stockpiled at home and i'm using the old quicklink from the broken chain as a spare that gets to live in the EDC tool for the next time my dumb rear end tries to shift while under way too much load. TL DR edc tool owns.

The communication wasn't great, there was a lack of obvious race officials and combined with newbie nerves resulted me in being a goon and starting in the wrong wave. The very last wave, actually. It was a 3 minute penalty, basically. It is what it is but I'm just disappointed I missed out on racing with my peers. I'm thinking of trying an enduro race next season. Never raced bikes before but despite not being very fast it sounds like a blast.

Burke Mountain, Coquitlam, BC. Don't come here its awful... Some great trails there. The climb is a bit of a grind on old fire roads but it isn't too bad. Around 500m of vertical to be able to get a linked descent all the way down to the bottom. Some of the local trail builders are super creative and there are significantly more trails than what are on trailforks if you get out and explore. I'm working at it. A 600m climb is easy enough but I haven't done any climb days bigger than that. Most of my rides are a couple of hours and done if I'm peddling. My bigger descent days have all been shuttles. I'm going to try and ride Lord of the Squirrels in the next few weeks which is significantly more vertical than I've ever peadled.

So far I have not been murdered by goons from the internet so this seems like a great idea. I do plan to get a better more shuttleworthy bike rack pretty soon. I have an old school horizontal carry one which works fine for a couple of bikes but I really want to get a North Shore or another vertical carry style. They just look so much easier to use.

The nice thing about the NSR one is it still folds up when you want to leave it on the vehicle but not use it. Shuttlerack in chilliwack makes a really nice rack for ~$1000 also but it doesn't fold and its gigantic on the back of your vehicle.

Well my goons I done hosed up on Saturday. Should be seeing an orthopedic specialist today or tomorrow. poo poo happened real fast but all the emerg services were great In getting my rear end off the mountain.
