I would like to quite literally sit by a fire. Is there a thread with info on firepits, building them, buying various pre-made ones(i.e. Solostoves, propane fueled pits, etc) and such things? I am talking mainly about permanent or semi-permanent structures for the yard! We just bought a house with a yard and this is like one of the top 3 things I am looking forward to about it.

You'd probably get some responses in one of the homeowner threads, or maybe the landscaping thread. We got one of the metal ones from the hardware store, which is fine but not amazing. We've been moving it so it doesn't rust and so it doesn't permanently take up a spot, but then you have to lug it out to use it which is kindof a high activation barrier.

I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just some QB that I used to know
Thanks for the info guys, I might make a thread down the road, especially if I do build one, and also because so far I have read some conflicting advice on materials!

My biggest concern/ thought about solo stove was the speed at which it consumed wood, which appears to be valid. Still might get one, just depends on how much work and how busy I wi be in a few weeks.

So, I figured this thread could be a place to discuss how best to build the TGO community up and get some activity just outside of a few big megathreads. I'll readily admit I'm not the best at community building and engagement, because all I have for ideas is lets make a new forum icon to get rid of the enviroment tag so I figure asking the community is a better way to do it. I figure this would also serve as a good place for people to ask any questions they have of me or to request stuff for the forum that may make things easier on other posters! The previous thread on what to do with take a hike turned into making this wonderful new forum for us to post in, so lets see how we can make it even better! :toot:

In that spirit, I figure I'll post about my outdoors activities so ya'll can get to know me! My outdoors activities lately are limited to fishing and a camping trip now and again, but I'd love to add kayaking and maybe offroad bike riding to that list if I can ever figure out how to ride a bike through dry super fine sand without eating poo poo repeatedly. (its been almost a decade since I've tried and I still have vivid memories of repeatedly eating poo poo. It wasn't fun.)
I volunteered with JB to be one of the early mods for this forum since I enjoy doing outdoorsy fun stuff on the gulf coast of Florida and having a place to come chat about it without going through all the different subforums to find the threads hidden away in each one seemed like a good idea. The way TGO has developed has proved that it was a good idea and it seems generally seems like people are having fun. Hopefully we can keep it going and have a great community develop. :yayclod:

It's really loving hot outside like 106F and I hate getting all sweaty and greasy and thirsty.

Why should I bother going outside?

Yeah thanks 60s Disney guy. I don't need sunburn and heatstroke because you think it's groovy.

Third time is a charm right?
I've got friends in sf bay area and there's already a lot of fires out that way. Here in Washington, we didn't get nearly as much spring/early summer rain that we normally do. We've got fires out east but I have a feeling august and September are going to be brutal.

I live in northern California and it's gearing up to be a real bitch of a late summer.

Fortunately PG&E is ready! Or at least they say they are. We shall see.

Has there ever been a skate thread? Skateboarding not inline skating. I get it's not the typical goon activity but there's gotta be some overlap. I'm just getting back into it so don't feel like the right person to make a thread but if a few of us are here I might start thinking about it.

This one seems to be about roller blading: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3961772

I don't know if there is a proper skateboarding thread. Definitely feel free to make one. An OP doesn't have to be the world's most informative infodump.

Not a poster myself (nor really a lurker) but there's a (fairly low-activity) one in Sports Argument Stadium.
