The Flames let Backlund go in the expansion draft?!?!?!

I did a handful of test drafts, to see who was available and how the CPU would draft. This draft is totally stacked. If you draft smart, you can assemble a Stanley Cup quality team. He wasn't even the best player available for the Flames...

Giordano was also available.

I am excited to see where Adam Banks ends up this time. I threw him in the 2014 one and he ended up being one of the top 5 guys career wise if I remember correctly.

I think they finished 16th, and the screen for the lottery only does the top 15. So, one team will always be left out with me adding the expansion team.

With the 36th overall pick, the Los Angeles Kings select....

From Liberty University... Dick Glynnenstein

With the 38th overall pick, the San Jose Sharks select....

From the Red Deer Rebels.... Phu Barr

So, Ottawa, Los Angeles, and the Rangers each snag a pair of goons. Ottawa had 7 picks in the first 2 rounds, and 13 total picks. I wanted to do something different for a jersey reveal, but it wouldn't work for everyone, so I scrapped the whole thing.

Here are the round summaries. I only did the first two rounds, since that is where all the goons went.

I will finish up the rest of the offseason either later tonight or tomorrow.

Comments
Hockles gets the first peek at the NHL, but on the 3rd pairing.
I think the better goalies will get the majority of playing time, and the fact a 65 OVR goalie is starting over an 86 OVR goalie is just a temporary hold-over from teams rotating goalies during the preseason.
Players under 20 that came from a WHL/OHL/QMJHL team that do not make the NHL are assigned to the WHL/OHL/QMJHL instead of the AHL, much like real life. They are there for the duration for the season, and do not get called back up. But hey, they give you stats for it now!

LAK gets: 2021 1st Round Pick, 2022 1st Round Pick

Comments
There wasn't any change in the Draft projections at all.
Van Buren finished 3rd in points in the AHL, Banks finished 8th
Banks finished 2nd in goals in the AHL
A handful of other trades happened, but I'm not going to detail all of them
I guess they changed that the AHL plays 82 games now (even the Pacific division), but it helps that both seasons end on the same day now. It used to be a big pain because the AHL season would end 2-3 days after the NHL season and it would make things difficult to track in the AHL.
Playoffs and awards are up next.

Soup Van Buren won the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award, which is Rookie of the Year in the AHL
Prep Hemlock wins a Calder Cup as the Rockford Ice Hogs win the Calder Cup in the AHL
80% of the goons on the AHL teams made the playoffs, maybe it is a sign of things to come?
I just remembered that of course the 2021 draft class played amateur 2 seasons ago, so I have added those stats (and the stats above) to those player's tabs, so everyone listed above should have 2 years of amateur stats.
I am probably going to post the draft picks tonight after the CBJ/TOR game, or following regulation if it goes to OT again.

Comments
Lots of free agent movement, which makes me think that down the road, goons might be hitting the free agent market while in their prime. Which is quite rare.
ELCs only start counting once the player plays 10 games in the NHL during one season (or when you hit 20 years old), so Hockles is the only one with one less year.
Next up, who makes the NHL and who gets sent back to their CHL team? The answers may surprise you.
