Welcome to Avengers video game! Marvel's Avengers is getting a series of betas on various platforms before launch. There's an earlier beta for those who preordered the game and a later open beta for everyone else. Check out all of the Marvel's Avengers beta dates below: August 7 - PlayStation preorder beta August 14 - Xbox and PC preorder beta August 14 - PlayStation open beta August 21 - Xbox and PC open beta *NOTE: This OP will get more fleshed out after beta when we get to actually play it. Discord for goons who want to talk the game. Us Marvel Heroes deadgame lovers are in limbo about excitement and disappointment incoming: https://discord.gg/pcjwZae Game Details The game is being collaborated on by five core studios: Crystal Dynamics, the lead studio Eidos Montreal Crystal Northwest, a new subsidiary of Crystal Dynamics created specifically for the multiplayer aspects Nixxes, a Dutch studio focusing on creating assets for this project Square Enix Japan, focusing on technology and lighting Shaun Escayg (of Naughty Dog fame) is the creative director on the project Bill Rosemann, VP & Head of Creative at Marvel Games, is advising on the project (just as he did for Insomniac's Spider-Man) Type of Game: This is a loot game, according to those who have played the beta. It is very single-player friendly as AI teammates (your characters you level) can help you through missions. You can also co-op with up to 3 other players (4 total in your party). Best way it's being described is a Destiny-like with Marvel characters in its own separate story and you run maps/levels for content as it is not open world. Game Launches All 3 platforms release date is September 4th, 2020. 3 days early access for Deluxe Edition. Spider-Man is exclusively playable in 2021 for PS4-5 owners ONLY. Forever. Money talks. Story The prologue begins on A-Day, where the Avengers are celebrating the opening of their 2nd HQ in San Francisco and a new Helicarrier powered by a terrigen crystal. Taskmaster attacks during the event, destroying the Helicarrier (along with half of San Francisco) and leading to Captain America's apparent death. The Avengers are blamed for the destruction and disband as a result. The main game picks up 5 years later in a world where superheroes are outlawed and the science-based organization AIM has rebuilt and taken control of San Francisco. When teenager Kamala Khan* uncovers a conspiracy behind the A-Day incident, she sets off to re-assemble the Avengers and set things right. AIM is siphoning power from imprisoned Inhumans to power their technology, and the Avengers must rescue them. *It has not been concluded if Kamala Khan has apologized to Israel yet. Nathan Silvers is investigating as we speak. Gameplay Stuff The game will be split into two major components: a single player campaign and co-op Warzone missions Campaign -You can play the entire campaign without going online (after a one-time connection to link your free SE member account) -The campaign is comprised of missions that are designed around specific heroes so that they have different flavors. For example, a mission designed around Black Widow might involve more stealth, while a mission designed around Hulk will be all about smashing Co-op -If you just want to play co-op, you can jump straight to the Warzone missions after you play the first mission, and play with your friends and start unlocking other heroes. -The Warzone missions further flesh out the narrative and world (though not in a way that is essential to the single-player plot) -If you want to, you can play all the Warzone missions solo -You can have a total of 4 players in a mission -Each player must be using a different hero-- you can't have 4 Hulks running around -Warzones can be completed solo with AI companions (*new*) -You can pull off team finishers (*new*) -When you fill up a larger enemy's stun meter, two heroes can come together for a team finisher move -Certain Warzones have a wide linear design to encourage exploration (*new) -There will be six playable heroes at launch: Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor, and Ms. Marvel -All of your heroes' progress will be shared across the entire game (e.g., if you level up Iron Man or find a new piece of gear for him in a Warzone mission, that will carry over to the campaign missions, and vice versa) Each hero can be customized in various ways -Gear (will be familiar for anyone who's played Nioh, The Division, etc.) -Affects your stats, but not your appearance -Different pieces of gear for each body part, and rarity level is indicated by the color Costumes -Purely cosmetic, will not affect your stats -Some costumes can be unlocked just by playing, while others will need to be purchased Abilities -There will be different skill trees for each hero to enable different playstyles Perks -Can add gamma damage to gear -Can make gear shrink enemies and more to come on this stuff. Artifacts and Emotes have also been mentioned in game and we will see those soon enough! Each hero will have different methods of traversal (Thor and Iron Man can fly, Hulk can jump really far, etc.) Each hero has 3 cooldown-based "Heroic" abilities, which fall within 3 categories: Support (L1), Assault (R1), and Ultimate (L1+R1) for you console degenerates. 1-2-3 for the smarties out there. Playable Launch Characters The characters all have 3 skill trees. There are passives, buffs, active skills, ultimate(s), etc. Supposedly it's actually robust and you can really diversify the builds. So, if you see just 3 moves here, just know there's more like a dozen per character if I recall correctly. Captain America Move name unknown (Support): Cap uses his leadership skills to mark enemies, leaving them vulnerable to extra damage Move name unknown (Assault): Cap throws his shield, which automatically ricochets to up to 5 enemies, dealing damage and stunning them Brooklyn Brawl (Ultimate): Cap slams his shield into the ground, sending enemies flying and giving himself an attack and defense buff Hulk Ground shaker: Rage Thunderclap Air spike Battering ram Black Widow Move name unknown (Support): Widow cloaks herself and any nearby teammates in a field of invisibility Widow's Bite (Assault): Widow shoots a sphere of electrical energy, which explodes on impact and creates a small electrical hazard that deals continuous damage to enemies in range Move name unknown (Ultimate): unknown Thor Warrior's Fury (Support): Thor uses the Odinforce to imbue himself with limitless lightning strikes that arc out to hit nearby enemies and all his attacks are charged with electrical energy. Nearby allies are giving invulnerability. Move name unknown (Assault): Thor lifts nearby enemies into the air with mini cyclones, then blasts them with a bolt of lightning Bifrost (Ultimate): Thor travels to another realm and then controls where a torrent of cosmic energy strikes upon his return, dealing significant damage to enemies in the blast radius. Players can select which realms Thor travels to when using Bifrost, and each realm will change the effect of the ensuing blast Iron Man Tony Stark's moves are currently unknown because Squeenix wants to avoid Anthem-like gameplay. Probably a smart decision. The Forbes beta tester person said Iron Man is cool but moves slow, but said this flying was better than Anthem's flying lol Kamala Khan Kamala's moves are known but until she apologizes to Israel, we will have to wait until beta. Just kidding here they are. Embiggen: Hammering strike: Harpoon: Leg sweep: Whirlwind: ***Supposedly, Carla Danvers herself, Captain Marvel, is a story unlock. Everybody and their father, mother, grandbabies and more, are convinced this is a thing. She does have a playable model datamined, but nobody knows for sure. ***Also, Hawkeye has already been confirmed the first post-launch hero. He will be based on the Matt Fraction version, aka a great version. I am happy about this and you are too!*** ***Spooder-Man is PS4-5 only. Sony sent CD a blank check to make it happen. No really, they did. He is coming 2021 along with exclusive gear, missions, challenges, etc.*** What do you play in this? Story: Most is single-player. You play the campaign. War Zones: These range from 15 minutes to 2 hours long. Some are puzzle-based (the lengthier ones) and some are driven by combat. Some are a mix! There's supposedly 80 at launch, but there are reusable assets everywhere. Drop Zones: These are 10 minute matches, go right to the boss and dominate. Get loot, rinse and repeat. Great for people like me who don't play video games. (It's for those who are short on time yadda yadda). Danger Room thing: I can't recall the name but you are in a Simulation Room, and it's 3 levels. Enemies get harder after each level. Collect your prize. Raid: Coming post launch. There's another game mode or two that is coming as well. Loot Yes, you gear your character's and they have all kinds of different perks and stuff on them. Max level is 50. Hopefully it isn't, but it really could be. We have barely seen any gameplay and the game launches soon. Beta will tell us the truth, so I'm going to do something I normally don't do and start my path to redemption!!!!: Don't buy this until the beta and really, really, really, be objective with that beta when you play it. It either blows your socks off and you make the purchase. If it doesn't do that, you may want to hold off because this is a gamble of a game. It's like this: If you like Marvel stuff, you should look at this game. If you like loot games, it's worth a look. If you have friends at all who play video games, it's kinda sorta worth a look. It's also like this: This game has been delayed twice. It is a cash grab. It is expected to live off MTX (DLC like story and chars will be free though, they say, despite making Spidey console exclusive to PS4-5 ), it has barely shown ANY gameplay at all and it drops in September. Actually, most people still don't know what this game is about, but we're expected to buy it because Marvel. So, be skeptical. BUT it's a big game coming and the "first" of the big holiday season we'll call it, so here's the OP! It's either going to be Anthem 2.0 or it's going to be a decent to good game. A picture courtesy of the beta. Not doctored at all. Go Marvel's Avengers!!!! ICR fucked around with this message at 20:36 on Aug 18, 2020 |

Reserved for builds and news that needs attention The Beta Starts in 23 Hours for PS4 Users! This same stuff will be in next week’s PC beta and then open beta the week after that. What’s In the Beta All three betas include the same content. If you play in the first beta, when you login to the second beta, the same amount of content will be available. There will be four hero missions from the game’s campaign, three HARM Room challenges, four War Zones, and 5 Drop Zones. Hero Missions: These are the main story missions of the game. We won’t spoil what happens in each but you will get to play through the events of the heavily-marketed A-Day as well as a few missions in the aftermath of that event. You’ll play as a number of heroes throughout these missions. HARM Room Challenges: These are essentially wave-based arena challenges. There are three. Each challenge gets harder and harder as do each of the 10 waves within each challenge. You can play these solo or with up to three hero companions and you can play each challenge as any hero you’d like. War Zones: These are large-scale open-ended missions that see you and your team dropped into an open area. You’ll find that you have a number of waypoints leading to the missions’ main objective, SHIELD allies that need rescuing, Stock Pile warehouses, chests and more. These can take anywhere from 10 minutes if you zoom right through the main objectives to an hour if you choose to search through every nook, cranny, and objective. Drop Zones: These are quick single-objective missions. A Drop Zone objective might be take out a high-value target. When you load into the mission, you’ll have a waypoint taking you to that target. Head there, defeat the target, and the mission will be complete. These are quick and easy ways to gain experience and get guaranteed rewards upon completion. Heroes Throughout the beta, you will play as six heroes: Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Captain America, and Ms Marvel. You will only be able to play as Thor and Captain America in the game’s first hero mission. You will not be able to play as them again after that point. The other story missions will see you play as Hulk and Ms Marvel. Upon completing the hero missions, you’ll gain access to the War Table. You can select HARM Room Challenges, Drop Zones, and War Zones here. You can play as Hulk, Ms Marvel, Iron Man, or Black Widow in any of these. Skill Trees You will only be able to spend skill points to acquire skills for four characters: Ms Marvel, Hulk, Iron Man, and Black Widow. Each hero will have three skill tree pages in the full game but during the beta, each hero will only have one skill tree page. Fear not, each of these pages has over 20 skills for you to choose from. You will not be able to acquire every single skill at once during the beta. Skill acquisition carries over from beta to beta but does not carry over into the final game. Marketplace The marketplace is where you’ll be able to purchase cosmetic items like Emotes, Skins and Nameplates. You will have some credits upon starting the beta. Credits can be used to purchase cosmetic items. Real money can not be used to purchase anything. Gear Marvel’s Avengers places heavy emphasis on the different gear available for each hero. Each hero has four types of gear they can equip as well as a Major and Minor artifact for additional buffs. There are different rarity types of gear and generally, the more rare a piece of gear, the better its stats and perks. Gear will be rewarded upon mission competition and it can be found throughout each mission in chests and upon defeating enemies. The max level you can reach with a hero is level 15. This is determined solely by how much experience you've gained and you'll gain one skill point to be spent on skills every time you level up in the game. This is different from your power, which has a max of 45. Power is a number determined by the different pieces of gear you have equipped. Challenge Card A Challenge Card in Marvel’s Avengers is their take on the popular battle pass system found in games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone. By completing daily and weekly challenges, you’ll earn Challenge Points that unlock different levels of the Challenge Card. Each level of the Challenge Card unlocks some kind of reward be it a nameplate, a skin, resources or something else. There are 200 points to earn on each Challenge Card. Multiplayer You can play with up to three other players in Drop Zones and in War Zones. No two players can play as the same hero. There are three ways to play with others in Marvel’s Avengers but only one is available during the beta: Quick Match. You can select to turn matchmaking on or off and it will essentially put you in any team as an available hero within that team. If they have an open slot for Iron Man, it might slot you in as Iron Man. You can also invite friends to join your team. Progression Scaling Because this is a beta, it is important to note that the progression scaling you feel in the beta is not representative of the final game. More loot will be in the beta than will drop in the final game and experience is earned at a faster rate as well. All of this is to say that you will level up and acquire gear much more rapidly than you will in the final game come September. ICR fucked around with this message at 03:53 on Aug 7, 2020 |

Definitely keeping this game on my radar but everything I’ve seen so far just seems very generic. Who knows, maybe it’ll turn out to be good. Also MODOK as the villain is very good but I suspect he won’t be the final big bad.ICR posted:***Supposedly, Carla Danvers herself, Captain Marvel, is a story unlock. Yeah it’s speculation. It grabbed hold when the poster was designed more like a playable model, and then I guess somebody was saying her model is different than others and somebody grabbed hold of after story she unlocks. Then all these message boards are parroting it too. We don’t know! https://www.gameinformer.com/2020/06/14/potential-first-look-at-captain-marvel-in-marvels-avengers

Saying she has a model datamined is very different from “her model on a poster looks too good to be not playable”. That said it would be weird to have a game with Ms. Marvel but no Captain Marvel, so she’s almost certainly going to show up in the story. And if she isn’t playable at launch she might be added later like Hawkeye.

RatHat posted:“She does have a playable model datamined, but nobody knows for sure.”???? Her character model's been shown off in the background of one scene and there's a blank space on the character roster before Hawkeye's in the trailer advertising Hawkeye as the first post-launch character. And due to story/achievement leaks we know that the Kree feature in some capacity down the back half of the game.

What Dan said. So, yeah, sorry I’m bad with words here, but it’s been referred to as a datamine because her live character was in costume and “powered up” compared to Hank Pym, who was speculated too but has since, lost its gravitational pull. The part Dan said lead to more and from there, communities said there has to be a reason for this hotly requested playable char, etc. Either way, it’s a good question, good point out in semantics and yeah, we shall carry on from here!

So in a game without tanks / healers / DPS they found a way create the same queue experience? One one character is found to be slightly better everyone is gonna queue as them. " Sigh, guess every one wants to be Iron Man. Better switch over to.....gah, Captain Britain."

I have tons of reservations on this so my hype I wanted to bring originally will only be like a 3/10 compared to my 11/10. Lots of info came out and it was not good news! However, a strong beta can change that and there’s nothing like seeing it for yourself. Just gotta be smart though and not do the thing most of us all do when a game drops: call it amazing after the shock of the first 60 minutes of a game. So, gonna play this one smart but know that hey, there’s potential! And besides, the God of War 4 combat dev is the main combat dev for this!

This could be fun to play with some friends for some co-op experience but locking one hero per player in a party is awful. Just let each player choose the character they want, not only do you have different skins for each hero but you even have in-universe explanation since there's multiple universes and versions of the same characters on the comics wtf

Yeah basically nobody is happy about that no dupes in game. Just kills the Marvel immersion. Unplayable if two iron mans that’s physically impossible!
