I never used to get PMS at all until after I had my son and now there's a day or so a week before my period where I just cannot deal with my husband's stupid thoughtlessness about just leaving dishes and poo poo all over the house like I don't have better things to do with my time than put the goddamned mayonnaise back in the fridge that he took out. I usually don't give a poo poo and get them whenever I do one of my multiple daily cleaning sessions to but fuuuuuuck when those hormones hit do I tell him exactly how pissed I get that he just leaves his dirty poo poo everywhere for me to clean up like I'm a bus boy.

To tell you the truth I'm kinda leaning into it and enjoying being angry sometimes. For fucks sake I spend like eighty percent of my time picking up after a toddler, Mr Ralph is a grown rear end man who is perfectly capable of putting his half-drank soda in the fridge after lunch. I got an app that tracks my period and I'm supposed to get it here in four days, which tracks cause a few days ago I was telling him that being a stay at home mom is death by a thousand cuts and he's just throwing more razor blades at me.

My cramps are worse too after having a kid. I never used to really notice them but boy howdy do I do now.

Edit- Wow I think I still got some PMS cause I'm apparently real mad about it still.

Ever be in the bath during your period and a gooey piece of your uterine lining comes out and floats around and you have a look at it and you're like 'hmmmm interesting' and try to determine if it's the unfertilized egg? I've done that a few times. Apparently the egg is the only cell in the human body you can see with the naked eye.

I don't like using tampons/cups because I find it physically uncomfortable. Not mentally or anything, I mean poo poo I had a kid I've had all kinds of traffic through my chunnel, I just do not like having them in there cause I can feel it the whole time. I also can't wear heels or nylons or stuff like that cause it is just way too uncomfortable. I've also gotten attitude that my preference for pads makes me some kind of a prudish nun because I'm uncomfortable with it, which feels really judge-y.

I use washable pads I bought on the AliExpress. Had em for like a year now and they hold up good. Someone was asking about it earlier and if they are still interesting I can link. Way cheaper than getting it here and after looking at the ads for ones sold here and the ones on the AliExpress I'm 99% sure they come from the same factory.

The clothe ones don't chaff much and since there is no glue or stickers it doesn't stick to your pubes. They twist around a bit though if you ride a bike or something like that.

There's really no good way to deal with catching the blood, is there? Menstruation is the strongest argument against intelligent design cause what are we supposed to do 'naturally' about it?

I was on the Minerva for years before I took it out to get pregnant. I haven't had it or any other form of birth control for two years and the biggest thing I've noticed is that I feel a lot better mental health-wise. While on the IUD I was getting mild to moderate depressive episodes on the reg but now I only ever feel sad during PMS, and even then I'm more likely to be angry than sad. It could be argued that my depression was being caused by environmental factors, such as stress from college or long-term unemployment/underemployment, but being a stay at home mom is also super stressful and while I feel stress and frustration at times I certainly don't get sad and depressed like I used to.

I started my period today too. We are in the middle of a heat wave so I'm more fatigued than usual. The day before my period I have a lot of discharge which, by the end of the day soaks my underwear so I've get some nasty chaffing and welts so it hurts to walk. I feel bad about it but I'm just going to park Ralph Jr in front of the TV today cause I'm too tired and sore to do much with him.

I thought that humans were the only animals that had regular monthly menstruations because we don't go into heat like other animals as we are constantly ready to fertilize? Like, apes aren't having their periods every month, just after they have an unproductive heat?

Also, I didn't learn until like a year ago that the heaviness of my flow is actually greater than normal.

I'm glad this thread is here because people don't talk about this poo poo enough, which is why I thought my absolute misery every month was completely normal for decades.

I'm also glad this thread is here. Hooray for normalizing periods!

Have you changed birth control methods in the past few years or are you on any kind of medication? All kinds of poo poo can have an effect, even if it isn't directly related to your reproductive system.

I had an episiotomy so I had stiches which meant I had to make sure they didn't get infected so I had to rinse them off after I peed and I was supposed to pee after I breastfeed because it would reduce my uterus size (?!?!?!) and I had to breastfeed at least once every two to four hours. So for two or three weeks I had to splash my cooter after peeing with a liter of cold water like ten times a day (cause I didn't want to wait for warm water to heat up as I just wanted to get back to bed cause my healing episiotomy was so sore) and as a result the toilet was just drenched with bloody water all the time. Husband had to clean it constantly cause I was in too much pain/busy with a newborn.

And this was a relatively good/easy post-natal period. I didn't have any serious constipation issues and my milk came in fine and I didn't get infected. He-goons beware; if you think periods are icky things get really gnarly after birth.

Kids can be great if you want them but you really got to be in the right headspace to deal with them. Bullshit is going to happen and you just have to accept it.

On episiotomy chat right after I had my baby and they were stitching me up I was sort of flinching, as you would when you're getting your genitals sown back together, and the (male) doctor said something like "the more you jump the harder it is on me" and I apologized and I felt bad about making it hard on him and even then I was mad about how much society socializes women to be polite and yielding to requests. I mean, I get his point, but he was a condescending dick about it. Of course he was Dutch and the Dutch sort are condescending dicks by nature, but still if you've decided to specialize in birth procedures you could work on your bedside manner a bit.

I've been on the pill for a year or so and it made me feel like absolute poo poo mentally and I was on the Minerva IUD twice for years and it was better but I still felt kinda bad mentally. Physically though I was fine. I didn't have any major discomfort getting it in or out each time. We use condoms at the moment because I don't want to jeopardize my mental health while caring for a toddler and we haven't decided either way if we are going to have another or not.

I feel real strongly about letting other women know their mental health can be effected by birth control. It's not something that is addressed when you go the doctor, at least it wasn't for me. A friend of mine was asking me about my experience with the IUD and I told her while it's great for birth control, she could also run a risk of having some mental health issues. It's a hormonal and chemical change to your body and God only knows how an individual will react to it. For me it was sort of the straw that broke the camel's back. My family predisposed to it and I have a fair amount of environmental stressors (lol who doesn't though) and when I stopped taking birth control I felt a lot better.

For one thing, it makes it hard for girls to learn things (well, it's probably easier now with widespread internet access) about birth control options or even just how to use a loving tampon.

I'm a natural nerd for learning so I would read books and magazines about sex at the library- not check them out cause my very conservative mother would have had a conniption- and from that I managed to piece together human sexuality. Sex Ed at my public school, which was in a pretty liberal state, was basically useless because the only thing it bothered to tell us about what AIDS and that you'd get AIDS from sex and that you'd then die of it or you'd get herpes and your genitals would be destroyed. They also said that boys would get wet dreams but they didn't say what wet dreams were so I just thought that boys pissed themselves at night all the time. They said nothing about female sexuality though, so when I figured out how to :shlick: I had no idea what was happening.

But because adults made such a big deal about sex I knew there had to be more to it than just the opportunity to get AIDS, so I did a bunch of covert sex research between the ages of 12 and 14. This researched turned out to be quite useful because I ended up knowing enough about reproduction and birth control that I only got pregnant when I wanted to. Also, for sucks sake, no one ever explained to me what semen even was. I had to do independent research to figure that out. Imagine having sex with your boyfriend and that happens and you don't even know what semen is!?!?!

When I got my IUD in order to try getting pregnant we (my husband and I, it was on the list of stuff to ask the doctor) asked if I should lose weight before getting pregnant. I was like 200ish pounds at the time, 5'6'', and the doctor sized me up and said "nah". I ended up getting Gestational Diabetes in the 5th month of pregnancy though, which to be fair can happen to anyone but being overweight doesn't help your odds.

I managed it very well through diet, never needed insulin or anything, but when Ralph Jr was past his due date they induced me, which probably made the labor longer than it would have been if we hadn't induced. He ended up being under the 4 kilo target - that's what they worry about when you got the GD, that your kid will be too big - so it all worked out happily for us. There can be some extremely dangerous and even life-threatening complications from GD, so it isn't something to be taken lightly. Fortunately it can be managed through diet a lot of the time.

Each year now I have to go and get screen for diabetes because having GD increases your odds of developing regular diabetes. I've been fine since, although I haven't lost any weight since having the baby. Haven't gained much though, so that's a win, I'm at 210 now. I exercise each day and don't eat much refined flour, which is what my GD specialist said is more statistically relevant for not developing diabetes than just being overweight. Still though, it's something I worry about, and if I get pregnant again I will almost certainly have GD again.

Anyway I'm ovulating right now and my Ps a bit more WA than usual during the day. I didn't wear a pad yesterday and my undies got wet and as a result I got a welty blister where my leg meets my labia. Wearing a pad today. Ugh, if it isn't blood it's just regular discharge.

one time I read an article that said the reason humans get periods when most animals don't is because human embryos are more deeply implanted in the host's body, cause more complications, and are more prone to abnormalities, so the uterus wants to create a hostile environment for newly-fertilized eggs to make drat sure the mediocre ones get flushed

this characterization makes me feel better about my periods because while I still don't particularly want a uterus it at least feels more like we're on the same page vis-a-vis violently rejecting potential pregnancies

would be nice if I could let it know there's no chance of me being pregnant and it can chill, though

When I was looking to get pregnant I read that one of the reasons why it can take up to a year for a woman to get pregnant even when her and her partner are healthy and fertility-issue free is that the woman's immune system may attack sperm like it's a invading pathogen.
