At the suggestion of the thread I installed the Clue app, because I don’t have a ready way of tracking the red tide (not on BC because it fucks with my other meds. And lol I’m asexual so I don’t need it for contraceptives).

Guess what started the DAY I installed the app. I’m sorry, nature, I didn’t mean to antagonize you. :(

Me, to my uterus: hey can you hold off for three days so I can get my yearly exam done without you bleeding everywhere?

My uterus, to me: start now so you’ll be on day three for your yearly exam so you can bleed everywhere. You got it!

Ugh. At least I was able to reschedule.

Does anyone else’s pets behave differently when you’re on your period? I don’t know if it’s just my hormone brain talking, but I swear my dog gets more needy/protective. It’d be cute if I also wasn’t a big mess!

See that’s rather cute! My dog goes into “protecc” mode to bark at every drat thing. He’s a schnauzer so he doesn’t need much more reason to do that.
Day 5 of this month’s shark week, ugh just be done already.

Had my yearly exam and nearly wept for joy when the Dr said they’re moving away from using speculums unless completely necessary, which it isn’t for me. Usually I’m weeping in pain from it!

However due to family history I’m slated for my first mammogram this week, and I’m not 40. Any advice, or anecdotes? My concern is that since I’m small chested it may be a bit more painful as there isn’t as much to work as with?

Yes gently caress. My knees act like I climbed a mountain! I don’t need cramps and achy legs, argh.

I just finished my cycle and prob need to reach out to the obgyn again. They wanted me to monitor tenderness on my breasts but like...that never seems to go away. It’s not just a cycle thing. Anyone else deal with that?

AbstractBlacksmith

Does anyone else experience constant tenderness in the breasts, no matter the time of the cycle? I’ve had two OBs look at me, and a clean mammogram, but fuuuuck are the sides always sore!

When I had an exam today the nurse was surprised. She asked if it was from an ill-fitting bra and I laughed and said I stopped wearing a bra in quarantine bc I work from home. So maybe it’s muscle growth? I’m a B cup so it’s not like there’s a lot of mass here.

I’m super paranoid bc cancer runs on both sides of my family. I was referred to a surgical specialist, so I wanted to ask if anyone else has dealt with this. :(

Thanks for arriving three days early, period. Are you gonna do the same thing as before and spot for days before anything substantial? Or will this be a quick one. Let’s spin the wheel and find out :/

AbstractBlacksmith
Mar 26, 2013
Poking back into this thread to say fffff my cramps were so bad this time around, but I also had the “why the gently caress is my heart racing” symptoms for the first time, but I remembered the thread and now it’s just another thing that happens. Yay.

I will also say they’ve felt shorter, but more intense, since getting vaccinated. Could just be anecdotal but I’ll take a 3 day period over a 7 day!

My uterus: lol how about right now

No calendar can contain the might of my cycle. At least that explains some of the horrid fatigue I’ve had?

AbstractBlacksmith
Mar 26, 2013
Good god today was rough. It’s like every symptom decided to hit at once. Hot/cold flashes, fatigue, mega cramps, loss of concentration, spiked emotions, etc.

I’m in my mid 30s I don’t wanna do this for another couple of decades. Plus I am in TX so I’m super not pleased with being a uterus-owner right now. I’m not ever gonna use it, I want it gone :/

Ok I gotta ask a potentially gross question, but google is failing me as to whether this is common or not.

Does anyone else deal with oral thrush/candida after their period? It seems to happen after about 50% of my periods, and I always assumed it was due to temporary iron deficiency. The internet also says is just bc your ph goes bonkers so your body says ok we’re doing this now. A good boost in iron (like a burger) seems to clear it up, but I wasn’t sure if others dealt with this, and if they had any tips to stop it from happening. I just hate the taste in my mouth for a couple of days.

I have been crying most of this week thanks to some potential positive life changes (chance of a better, higher paying job) but would also require me to move states plus some more e/n level woes, so it’s destroying me emotionally. And apparently making this post all over the place. This is gonna be a rough period.

All the potential life changes plus werewolf blood moon happening in the next day or two and I’m a loving wreck. Thanks hormones! My therapist is gonna love me next week.

Has anyone experienced numbness on their period? This last one was a monstrous roller coaster of emotions for me (as exhibited by my last rambly post) and this one I had my hands feel really tingly for a couple of hours and I couldn’t focus at all.

Online symptom searches say it could be PMDD but I don’t want to self diagnose and as I’m moving in about a month I won’t be able to get in to see my Obgyn (mayyybe my PCP if I push it). Is this a big enough symptom to try and see a doc about?

AbstractBlacksmith
Mar 26, 2013
Thanks y’all, I’ll monitor it. Panic attack seems the most likely due to the massive stress I’ve been under. If it happens again I’ll talk to my doc! I’ve never had a panic attack before so I don’t know what symptoms to look for (tho I’m sure it’s different for everyone). I’m just glad this period is over!

I told a trans friend of mine I wish I could give mine to her, and she said that was not the first offer she’s received, so now and again I ask her how many uteruses (uterii?) she’s hypothetically collected (at least three!)

I was on a literary kick, realized I didn't have The Color Purple, and bought it and one of the sequels, Possessing the Secret of Joy. Now to be fair my Color Purple initial copy ended up read so much it fell in two, and I've read Possessing but drat it is hard to read again. It's about Tashi, the Olinka girl/woman from Color Purple and details a lot more about her life including her getting FGM in her teens. Her mom refused to let it happen when she was a baby, or a child after her sister bled to death, but as Tashi grows up and all her life is stripped away by the rear end in a top hat white people taking over the village, she decides to get it done because it's a sign of her people. Of course getting this done at age 18/20 leaves her a crippled mad mess, but the book doesn't shy away from how her period now takes a full month, and going to the bathroom takes an hour.

This reminds me of the book I read a while ago, Who Fears Death, which is sci-fantasy afrofuturism about a young Sudanese woman and also touches on similar topics. It’s a tough read but a really good one.

In uterus related news, I loving caught Covid so I have to reschedule the obgyn appointment that I had to book with a loving four month delay and now god knows how long it’ll take me to get back in. Argh!

Period started Sunday, I finally have my annual exam this Friday. Told my uterus if it could have things mostly wrapped up by Friday before my appointment I’d appreciate it.

Went to a new OB and she actually sat with me for 30+ min to go over the items on my chart and get my thoughts and opinions. Kinda wild, I’m not used to that! She actually listened when I said I want a hysterectomy, and didn’t give me the whole “are you sure” spiel because I was ready with ammunition to shoot that down.

So we’re scheduling a prelim ultrasound for next month, I think to get more insurance-based evidence of getting my uterus removed other than “I’m ace, I don’t use it, and I don’t want it” lol. Cautiously optimistic and also terrified because like, what if I AM approved? I never thought it could happen!

Does anyone else get into a, for lack of better phrase, “nesting mode” before a period starts? Mine just kicked in and two days before I was all about making food and doing house prep. I guess my body knew before my brain that we were gonna be laid out for a day.

At this point I only seem to be spotting when I would normally have my period. This time its literally just a pink tinge on the toilet paper so I'm hoping next time there will officially be nothing! But yeah I wasn't totally prepared for how much it would hurt. I guess I should have figured it being such a sensitive area but, oh well, at least I don't have to deal with it again for 7 years!

My obgyn and I talked about an IUD, and how I’d have to be knocked out fully to get it bc of my vaginismus. Combine that with being an ace person and yeah…I can barely stand tampons!

We’re going the route of a hysterectomy which was my call and the surgeon fully supports! I’m glad you are done with the heavy bleeding for seven years!
