Basically my only disappointment with the patch was that they didn't voice that conversation between Lyna and the Exarch before the trial and I think the scene really suffered for it.

Haven't we already had a clown Ascian? Zenos should not be the straight man, it's kind of painful to watch those scenes.

It's hard to believe, with what we've seen of their personalities since their introduction, that Alphinaud and Alisaie would at one point have agreed to wear the same outfit, let alone one so clownishly stupid.

They literally agree to do this for the pixies in the ShB MSQ several times though?

Remember that the Garlean Empire, like most historical empires, was really more of a federation of sub-nations, because it's only recently that we've developed the technology and infrastructure to run a country that huge centrally.
The Garlemald we see in game has access to radio communication (on a level sophisticated enough to allow for encryption and jamming and intercepting signals), apparently excellent espionage and counter-espionage operations, enough of a budget to pursue multiple large-scale military R&D projects (Project Meteor, Black Rose, the Weapons), which in turn points to some combination of mass mobilization, extensive taxation of its citizenry, and/or large-scale financial markets, has extensive air transportation and air forces, sophisticated mechanized infantry (magitech), large-scale extractive and industrial operations (using ceruleum), can ship conscript soldiers from one side of the empire to another, and issues its troops standardized uniforms and equipment evidently made on large-scale production lines (using Garlean fiber). Technologically it appears to be at least as sophisticated as large WW2-era nation states.

Remember that the time travel in ShB did not, in fact, undo anything, it only created an alternate timeline. In the original timeline as witnessed in Tales from the Shadows the 8th umbral calamity happened as planned and both Emet Selch and Elidibus are presumably alive and well. I absolutely wouldn't put it past Emet to have realized this in 5.0, reasoned that restoring Zodiark only mattered in the original timeline, and decided to indulge his suicidal tendencies while arranging to mercy kill a heart of Zodiark who is permanently cut off from the actual thing.

It's way more empowering to be special because of who we fundamentally are rather than only because, as we now know, Elidibus arranged to slip us a crystal which gave us the echo and made crystal mom notice us. (Certainly you can tell interesting stories in which the protagonist is not fundamentally special but it's been clear for a long time that FFXIV is not one of those stories.)

I don't know about that. They started with no plan, discarded a failed plan, and then actually succeeded.

All but for a time travelling cat they didn't expect, their plan worked.

And again, given how time travel has been both shown and told to work, there exists a timeline in which their plan *did* work. It's just that the post-4.5 game depicts an offshoot timeline, not the original.

Also it's not like the WoL has some kind of Pokemon type advantage against primals specifically. They're just A) immune to tempering and B) a high-level adventurer. Becoming a primal is going to give you an enormous advantage even if you can't just push your "temper" button to auto-win any engagement.

A) is literally what a Pokemon type advantage is though? We're immune to a class of moves that every primal, and only primal as far as we know, can use.

Our attacks don't deal double damage to the "god" type such that someone literally becomes worse at opposing us after achieving apotheosis.

This means that *we're* WoL-type, so tempering-type moves have no effect against us, but we haven't learned any moves that have said type.

(It's because Rowena has hidden all the good TMs, lest we learn her true nature and use them against her)

(Alternate joke: this wouldn't have happened if we'd stuck with our class instead of getting greedy and using a job stone to evolve before learning the good moves)
