Also 'In My Dreams' is probably my fave but I'm sucker for melancholy final songs, just like 'Ending Credits' on Invu

Same, I’ve been listening to it on near-loop all day. Haven’t had a Red Velvet song resonate with me like that since I found Body Talk a couple of years ago.

Kitsch and I Am have the best production I've heard in kpop in a while. New Jeans have the cool r&b sound perfected but Ive have the maximal full sound nailed and it's come out more with each comeback. The chorus on I Am is incredible with the layered gang vocals, rock instruments, and synths. Just pure ear candy. Both songs overtook Eleven as my fav Ive song as well, and I suspect Kitsch will end up on top.

There've been a lot of comments around New Jeans making all other kpop sound immediately dated and I think Ive is the best response to it, exactly for what you said. Their concept would be so easy to mess up but they've pretty consistently nailed it each time.

That said this album has their first songs I'm not a huge fan of, but I guess in a full album that's inevitable. I Am is probably my favorite song of theirs yet, and 섬찟 and Blue Blood are definitely in the mix too.

Honestly kinda disliked the newest jeans. Hyperbright pastels and a title track without any particular highlight to it. Doesn’t at all capture the energy and uniqueness of Ditto or Hypeboy imo; even their cola track was better.

On one hand, I think MBTI is a reductive way to describe someone's personality and it's silly how much idols talk about it

It’s just utterly universal among youth in South Korea today, it’s one of the first things everyone seems to ask when they first meet someone. This generation’s blood type.

Wtf Tony Leung :stare:

NewJeans got Tony Leung to be in their MV. Lmao. Amazing.

I think this is part of what I’m not digging about the new new jeans stuff. It’s a lot of seemingly just showing off their success? I mean I’m happy for them blowing up but their previous stuff had been strikingly innovative and unique, whereas now while I’m not saying it’s merit less, they’re leaning a lot more on namedrops.

To be fair their American high teen stuff was already a bit like that since debut I suppose. Maybe I just really loved Ditto in particular.

It was hyper popular right at the same time as a(n unrelated) fast and furious movie came out and there was a little burst of popularity for that (including my sister in law) in Korea simply because of the song.
It was a surreal time.

Psycho too. Red Velvet's best stuff is a cut above for sure.

Shame it's been like, 3 years, since they last put out anything unquestionably great.

IVE's first miss imo. It does the Le Sserafim thing of being fine from start to finish but with nothing to actually punch its way out over the top, like it was the first draft and they just pushed it out early. IVE gets some flack for their stuff being kind of straightforwardly done but I think they absolutely excel at that niche.

the video is fun though

My Satisfaction is amazing, one of my favorite kpop b-sides ever. The bit with Yujin and Liz at the end is just stupidly powerful and really plays to their vocal strengths.

Absolutely love Ditto but haven't been so hot on New Jeans' newer releases.

Chill Kill otoh has been warming on me a lot though. Not as good as Psycho but imo RV's best release since then.

if any of you have a VR headset (actually might be Quest-only), Venta X is a kind of cool experience.

https://www.venta-x.com/index.html?inLANG=EN#home

It's just songs in VR with the camera right up on the stage, but it's all nicely shot. Watched a few now and it varies from dance to dance but some of them really get in your face and play with depth in cool ways.

I wouldn’t even be able to tell thats Ive if i just heard it. I guess thematically it fits the group well but they did nothing to play to their vocal strengths, and going fully english lowers the already low bar of creativity involved in making a cover.

They got some (minor) flack in Korea during a live performance of Easy with their vocals making it clear it was anything but.

Honestly love the le sserafim logo, had no idea it was apparently slapped together.

In Korea there is some serious doomsaying about them at the moment because they apparently screwed up Coachella (??). Can't catch a break I guess.

the visuals in that video are phenominal. Ive's always done weird ethereal vibes the best and a trippy-fied traditional Korean look just suits it perfectly.

ive b-sides never really grab me but their singles are all good to great

Dang, I think a lot of their b-sides are as good as the singles. I definitely wouldn't credit them with pushing the medium forward or having the most talented dancers or strongest singers (although Liz and Yujin are great), but I don't think I could name another group that puts out solid music with as much sheer consistency. IMO there's only like 3-4 skips on their entire discography.
