there is kind of an artistry to it. john woo uses slow motion like monet used light, like it's an integral part of the storytelling not just a cinematic flourish

In his Hong Kong era stuff, for sure. Here I was more thinking that the overuse causes an unintentional comedic effect. Like that one scene where the female lead (forgot her name rn) stumbles and it plays the scene over from like three angles in slow-motion.

Although all this made me reach a conclusion I'm not entirely thrilled about : John woo is arthouse Michael Bay.

Season 1 is probably one of the greatest works to come out of Television as a medium, even if 80% of that is due to unabashed Thomas Ligotti plagiarism.

the only HK-era John woo movie I've seen is hard boiled, but it does kick rear end. I also worked on the video game sequel to hard boiled: midway's John Woo Presents: Stranglehold for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

i was a junior programmer. i worked some on the cinematic tool and then I did a lot of work on the multiplayer side, which didn't get started until way too late

So you were the guy responsible for the terrifying/hilarious faces the bad guys would pull when you did that super zoom in ability and shot them square in the nuts? Amazing.
