I read so many of these as a kid but blocked most of them out of my memory.

I liked the ravenloft books. Each one was basically a clone of a real horror story. Like the strahd one was just Dracula but with a different name. At least that’s how I remember them

Lloyd Alexander better be a cool guy. I loved his books as a kid. I sometimes get the urge to reread them

Hilariously, I can only remember our two incorrect versions (DWER-ger and DWARE-gar). I’ll look for the book later.

I always assumed dwer-ger.

Have you read one of his books? Congrats you've now read them all.

That’s good to know. I read The Magic of Recluse and liked it, but could never get into the second one in that series. I don’t think I ever tried reading anything else of his.

weis and hickman did eventually write decent books at least. Death's Gate is a really cool series with a lot of ~subversion~ and Rose of the Prophet had both gay and female protagonists in a middle eastern fantasy setting. it's probably really awful but 13 year old me liked it anyway

I really liked the death gate series. I wonder how I would feel about them now 25 years later. I don’t think I’ll check.

On the other hand, I am now finishing up Lloyd Alexander’s Prydain books and they are still excellent stories. I’m going to give them to my nephew who is just about the right age to start them. He is almost eight which is about the age when I read them the first time many years ago.

Lloyd Alexander was great and should not be in this thread <>

I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I just read the prydain series again this year. I’m in my 40s now and I hadn’t read them since I was 8-9 or so. They hold up incredibly well. They are still for kids, but the writing is good and the themes are fantastic.

I gave my 7 year old nephew the Book of Three last weekend, I hope he asks for the rest.
