HelloIAmYourHeart posted:So what is the Bad Fantasy of today? Is it all those formulaic YA trilogies? I feel like the bad fantasy of my childhood (I am 35) was more for a male audience and now it's more for a female audience. Do I have any facts to back this up? Absolutely not. I feel like today's bad fantasy are those god awful fairy romance books. A Court of Thorn and Shadows and its sequels. I've never read them and, barring something terrible going wrong in my life, I never will, but I heard they're stupid and bad. They also kicked off the naming trend in fiction of Thing of Thing and Thing, which is another sure-fire sign of a bad novel. (See also any thriller with Wife/Woman/Girl in the title.)

Does best selling author Brandy Sandy at any point justify why he needs a kickstarter to publish his new books?

Tunicate posted:Because amazon controls 85% of book sales (and through audible and kindle, an even bigger fraction of audiobook and ebook sales). In the past Amazon has played hardball in negotiations by shutting off all sales from a given publisher for a month. Let me rephrase: why is extremely popular and well-established author Brandy Sandy self-publishing in the first place? Genuine question, btw. I just don't understand this at all, although I guess it raised $41m. Sisal Two-Step fucked around with this message at 13:33 on Apr 4, 2022 |
