yeah it will be a million times easier, I think that's pretty clear just from the preview videos etc.

The art direction overall is easy on the eyes. The character model generator thing looked great in Imperator but it's really going to shine here.

Never played CK2, but this game looks great, and the UI looks nice as well. And after watching a few videos, it looks like this game is what the AI characters in Imperator should be playing in the background.

If you come in on the ground floor, it will probably be easier. By the end CK2 was loaded down by so many extra, special-case, oddball extra, modified or DLC-added rules that it could get… a bit too much to all keep in mind.

Yeah I'm going to keep CK2 around a bit longer so I can play AtE, GoT, and EK until (if?) they get ported.

Anyone have their first game planned yet? I think I'm going to try being one of the Viking invaders of England in the early start, it seems like a good chance to test out the new religion mechanics in a relatively, but not entirely, isolated position. My traditional warm-up of Irish petty king -> high king -> crusader king can wait until the second go-round.

If anyone has any suggestions for a game to play after I do the tutorial, I'd appreciate it.

I have friends who are interested in CK but daunted, so I want to see how well it does its job. After that I might play a duke in France to see how the game plays as a vassal. Or maybe somewhere in the middle east. or...

Robert of Apulia in 1066 is always a fun start, not too easy but also powerful. You start with a horde of ambitious family and dynasty members, are in a war with the Byzantines for control of Epirus, and are perfectly situated to take Sicily from the Muslims and form the Kingdom of Sicily. From then on you can use your power base to either invade the HRE for their Italian holdings, to inherit them through strategic marriages with Matilda of Tuscany, or to just wait till they eventually secede from the HRE and gobble them up - or you can go an entirely different path with the crusades and try to eke out a crusader realm in the outremer.

I'm going to do a dumb religion thing I've been thinking about for a few months. I'll probably need to start over a few times. Christian heresy with St. Peter's cross symbol gnosticism even though it's mechanically bad witchcraft yes gay unions yes lady priests only women-first succession maybe mend the Schism

I actually like playing in Georgia/the Caucasus too, as a non-traditional sparking point between the Christians and Muslims. Might not be as entertaining in the 867 start though.

I’m gonna start with Ireland, but then I really want to try one of the places in Saharan Africa, now that there’s more space and more stuff going on there. I don’t know if they’ve said anything about trade routes so much as existing, but that webwork of passable terrain through the desert looks fun.

My plan is to start in Ireland withe recommended newb character of king murchad and unite Ireland itself, then over the course of a few generations intermarry with the ruling dynastys of Scotland, England and Wales if its still around. That will hopefully put me in line of succession and I can murder my way to their individual crowns or I might be able to leverage some alliances to pressing my claims militarily. Either way I plan to form the empire of brittania, which I will use as my own personal laboratory for loving around with the new heresy and religion systems. All in it probably ends with me setting myself up as a god-king of the British Isles.
