Anno posted:Yeah the good news is it’s arguably more fun to be rather mid at this game, or play mechanically sub optimally if not. I think it’s about as easy to get into as you can expect from a game like this. Just come ask lots of questions here when you get frustrated, plenty of people around to help. Let's do an Irish playthrough where I once again conquer most of Europe and sit at the top of the world, observing the squabbling of my vassal and subject like I would look down on insect! What do you mean this is the fifth time this month, I don't see what you are talking about?

I might sound stupid but I have two version of CK3. A legal one that I purchased to play with friend and an illegal one where I have all the DLC. I recently opened my legal version because I was too lazy to re-download my illegal copy of the game and I just wanted a quick fix of the big Irish Empire that span the entirety of Europe. Every time I would open up the game, my legal version crashed every single time. I don't know what's up but drat am I salty.

Sure, health as a stat is still around, but it doesn't matter nearly as much since so few things affect or are affected by it, and since it's fairly game:able as well. I mean, you get more point in stat if you are stressed enough (With thriving in Chaos I think)

I mean, there is a familiar and comfort in playing Civ 5 and CK3 since you know how the large game operate and what to do in order to have the upper hand but I just really like having control over stuff so it's not really applicable.

Tournament are really good to raise the prestige of your character, which is really useful if you are playing Viking or what to start twenty wars in a row.

Teriyaki Koinku posted:1.) Is it better to vassalize holdouts at a low contribution or wage war on them and force them to become vassals that way? I think the latter results in overall lower opinion of me but starts the vassal contract at normal contribution. Considering you just started your kingdom, you must still have a good army, meaning that even if they go to civil war, you'll still clap them. I think it's better in the long run to have the contract at normal than lower that it could be. Teriyaki Koinku posted:2.) I still don't know why I can't imprison my wetnurse for murder. Her murder infamy is there for everyone to see, but she still is designated an ally so it won't let me imprison her. Why? Probably a bug considering they shouldn't be landed. The option you're having should technically only apply to Vassal beneath you and she is neither so you can probably kill to solve the problem. Teriyaki Koinku posted:3.) Should I focus on developing my holdings to make my kingdom richer or start targeting counties in Scotland/England to eventually gain the empire of Britannia? Both are good. Developping your country can allow to get a better economy and so a better military but England kinda like to expand and have a big army so you should watch for that and maybe slap some sense into them every once in a while. Teriyaki Koinku posted:4.) My domain limit is 4/7. Is there a way to force vassals to hand over counties/duchies to me under direct control or leave it be? Except a few holdout who are the capital and/or have big developpment, the time that you'll spend getting control back and developping wouldn't be worth the effort, especially if you are going to clap Scottland. You are better just taking a few big city/capital, especially considering part of the terrain in Ireland is Wetlands, which slower the developpment rate. Teriyaki Koinku posted:5.) I can hold court now apparently. Does this help strategically or is it just for RP purposes? Depend on what you want to do. Some allows to raise the opinion of character, some give some bonus to town, some raise the acceptance level between two culture allowing for to do some funny stuff, some has some interesting project. Can be costly but are very nice bonus time to time. Up to you to check depending on your type of court and what you need. Teriyaki Koinku posted:6.) I can apparently equip my character and court with items. How do I get those? Do I need to attack other courts that have them or can I find or build them on my own? These are item that you can create by sponsoring people with an inspiration or you can always commision stuff if you have an aquiatrian. They offer nice bonus and those on the character can often boost can significantly the prowess of your character if the item are good. Teriyaki Koinku posted:7.) One of the court decisions says "your opinion of X lowers", but I can't actually see what my character's opinion of others is, just the target vassal's opinion of my character. Does it even matter? If you click on a character, their opinion of you should be at the bottom of their portrait. Opinion can be important because of vassal, it allows them to go to faction that make a mess and courtier can decide to join a murder scheme at your court if they don't like you enough. Also, if a population doesn't like you, they can also do a peasant revolt which can be put to the ground rather easily.

Teriyaki Koinku posted:Thanks for the advice, but for this part I’m talking about my character's opinion of others, not their opinion of me. If a character has an opinion of +55 of your character, your character will have an opinion of +55 in return to them. Teriyaki Koinku posted:Also I went ahead and made the last two duchy titles I could make, got the too many duchies malus, gifted the duchy title to an early who had one of the counties under that duchy, now I'm left with less income per month than I started with. If I'm not mistaken, the contract you have with the Vassal of the Duchy will give you less than what the Vassal with County will give you. This is due to how it's calculated. If you have 5 county that produce each 1 gold per month, they will give you, let say 20% of their income (This is not the correct number, this is just to explain stuff). You get 1 Gold per month. You then have the Duchy title who has the 5 county and an income of 2 gold per month because of their capital. That make for them a total of 3 gold per month and you get 15% of that. You get 0,45 gold per month. If I'm not mistaken, they "Too much duchy" malus only gives opinion malus. I'm not sure if they affect the duchy themselves. Teriyaki Koinku posted:I just assumed making titles willy nilly is a good thing. I really don't have a sense for what is optimal play yet. Depend on the title and the situation at hand. If you don't need immediately to have title, don't do it. If you have the Kingdom title and no Duchy title, you will have all the county and more money. That being said, if the Vassal start to get angsty for some reason and start faction, you can give one a Duchy and the county that comes with it. They leave the faction automatically, lessing their power. Teriyaki Koinku posted:E: what are some recommended YouTube guides for understanding CK3's systems better? There's quite a few of them and I'm not sure where to start. I don't watch CK3 youtube video due to the fact that CK3 isn't a particularly hard game. Unless your dynasty is dead, you'll always be able to rise up once again given enough time (If you don't re-load a save like me who cannot take upon himself to take the L)

I looked at the titles and it just said that the Byzantines stole the titles. No clue what happened, never seen that before. I think there is an action a steward can make to revert back some of the land if it is part of their de jure territory but it takes years usually.

I think my biggest grip with Ck3 is that they doesn't let you be socialist. Like, I have a hundred gold a month, let me use 40-50 of that gpm to like, improve the life of my subject or something. I don't want feast or hunts because your character will die, all their prestige will be lost with them and people will probably hate your heir for reason outside your control. I want to be the strongest not because of my armies or the wealth I hoard, but because my subject eat meals reserved for Kings and Emperor for breakfeast. You have big armies with two big alliance? That's so sad, because your alliances will be over the moment I plunged my knife into your back. I want my greatness to not be built on conquest or some random event that only five people will attend, I want to be great because I slapped a bunch of gold for development and built some university in some backwater county that no one gives a crap about other than the people living there. Please Paradox, let me be a socialist, it totally won't feed my megalomaniac tendecies, it's a great idea I swear-

Mantis42 posted:Ok, let's say that hypothetically the Earth rotates around the Sun and not the other way around, as liberals so often like to claim. Where is the wind? If the Earth is moving I should feel a breeze, such as one feels when traveling in a moving vehicle. Explain that, you can't. Second, if I throw a ball straight up it should not land where I originally threw it, as by your OWN logic, the Earth should have have moved in that time. There is no justification for the so-called heliocentric model, it's just Woke Hermeticism trying to undermine our traditional Christian values. If I open the door of my house during winter, I'm going to feel wind, but that doesn't mean the world is turning in that direction, you fool. Beside, there is a difference between going fast and just feeling the wind. On top of that, if I were to throw a ball, I could have it spin, go in one direction and still reach the ground nonetheless. An object can have multiple movement independent from one another. So, before you insult my intelligence, try to get a better look of yourself. Perhaps, if you weren't so blinded by your overinflated ego, you would notice that the word coming out of your mouth are no better than the one of a drunkard, because the Egyptian and Greek have proved this case for years before Jesus birth!

Serephina posted:Yea, speaking thereof, they really need to overhaul the religion system. I know they've added a tenet or two, but it's really super limited and the only way to get something that feels different is to spend all 3 tenents on some gimmick like "horny/lying&murdering/partying is good". Normally it's just a big long list of how bad the illegal stuff is, and how much everyone hates you for having a different coloured flag. I feel like religion is a bit boring in general. If you are catholic, nothing ever happens until the pope declare Crusade legal and do one every 15-30 years. If you are pagan (Played a lot of Norse and a bit of Vindilist), nothing ever happens outside of raids and the eventual Jomsvikings. Even if you manage to reform the faith with the three required site (Which are a pain to get btw), your old faith will consider you astray (BRUV, I JUST WANTED TO LOOK AT STAR SO OUR RAIDING SHIP CAN GO FASTER), or outright hate me (Just because I am the Head of Faith and that it is passed down through my bloodline doesn't mean I will stop you from praying the Gods. WE HAVE THE SAME PATRON GODS DAMMIT!). Pilgrimages are either easy Piety point or a way to farm out the point you get when you visit a special building. You do a big rear end pilgrimage that take 4 years, visit all the site you need and then bam, you have enough point to get everything that is relevent in each tree and 4 years later, you come back home with the pilgrim trait, a lot of piety point and everything you need for the rest of your life.
