fart simpson posted:did their hegemony directly lead to the collapse of civilization and extermination of the human species, op? tbh they did kill a lot of indigenous peoples and, as mentioned, Islamic civilisations, and they were almost certainly a catalyst for European imperialism (which might have been delayed with a stronger East, saving a lot of indigenous lives in the Americas especially), and if it weren't for the Mongols (especially Genghis Khan) we might not have the US as we know it today so no, they didn't directly lead to the collapse of civilisation and the extermination of the human species, but they sure as hell were a contributing factor
