i've been playing for a few days just enjoying the 'advanced tutorial' quests, messing around with bounties and mining and getting the hang of things in a relaxed fashion, with the intent to join the fleet once i'm ready for the more serious gameplay. should i just apply/join now, or will that get me ganked significantly more in lowsec? right now i mostly want the 500k SP tutorial bonus for joining a corp and i don't want to join some pubbie poo poo

Also a question for you and others: As somebody who only dabbled in regular Eve a few times, what is the reasoning behind playing this version on an emulator rather than the normal version? I mean aside from the obvious toilet playing.

i’m new to this and i don’t emulate, but playing and discording at the same time sucks on iOS. you can have discord as background sound no problem, but app switching to PTT is awful. i’ve been removed from fleets and had my custom overview filters reset during a 2 second app switch to discord and back

my solution is to plug both my phone and my actual computer into my speakers and discord on the computer, having the speakers sum the two inputs into my headphones. this obviously negates the portability benefit of playing on the phone, but it’s worth it for activities where comms are important

So I'm curious how most of you are playing this on ops, is it on PC through emulators? The game runs silky smooth on my iphone but bluestacks stutters and drops to 0 fps everytime I warp and crashes now and then. Despite that it feels like you would be at a large disadvantage trying to do more than very basic things (mining, hauling, etc) on the phone.

i feel toward emulating or multiboxing the way many people feel about graduating from smoking to injecting so i’m currently purely iphone and it’s working fine for me, though i’m still pretty new. repeatedly setting orbit is the only thing that feels a bit clumsy

doing straightforward ops where you don’t need to speak is fine on iOS only. tabbing out to do anything in discord makes eve misbehave so sort out the op details and join voice (PTT only) before you settle in and join the fleet within eve.

when i’m at my desk already, i use my computer for discord while still playing on my phone. i got a little fancy and used my speakers’ multiple inputs so i can hear both discord and eve simultaneously in my headphones.

the debate happened last night. sorry this is a bit hard to read, the town square was kind of busy. i put alliance icons next to the participants for the main section of the chatlog to help with readability

to sum things up, Danius got mad and forfeited this extremely serious debate after two rounds. one of the KTF team members, Bathammer, inexplicably flew to the debate in a Naga, so when it left i followed it to the Syndicate backdoor in Solitude that they like to use. new goosefleet members and tactical geniuses Braun and Thomas set up a perfect drag bubble to catch the Daredevil that was escorting the Naga home and we finished off debate night with a tasty faction frigate killmail and Danius flipping out in M2 local chat. thanks all for attending

just a few minutes ago Kellemar was finishing up a t6 inquisitor deep in our home space, and tenbux and i were there trying to help him catch an annoying little heron covops loot thief. we saw a couple neutrals show up in local but figured "arby dictor and prophecy should be OK if a hostile cruiser or two show up". imagine the look on our faces when a Machariel lands in the inquisitor with us. i zoomed away and Kellemar's prophecy got popped.

we formed up a small defense fleet right away, but it was looking like it'd be a close fight vs a Mach. there was some discussion about whether we should set up a smarter trap for them, but before we could discuss much, the Mach landed on our bubble. i was the hictor and got primaried, but it was looking like i could hold for a while...until their second Mach landed on our bubble and i blew up. the odds weren't looking good until Thrawn's BC collection started pouring in and blew up both Machs without losing any more ships.

Action Report: MinerCeptors

on wednesday night, our reconnaissance passed along some fun intel: Happybees were in possession of an Intumescent Condensed Asteroid Belt and were guarding it tightly. yesterday morning we discussed the possibility of an operation to escort a retriever out there, but our combat fleet was already booked for an event that evening. sonova suggested just throwing mining lasers on a stealth bomber, so i did:

the Bees immediately noticed and started fighting us off, even parking ships in the belt full time (which prevents it from leveling up). a bunch more geese brought hosed up fits of their own (mostly covops ships with mining lasers) and we took little bites here and there as their guards’ shifts changed.

the guards were NOT happy:

the Bees were using cloaked hictors and setting up considerable gatecamps along the way, which made things very risky for stealth bombers and force recon cruisers. a couple miners lost their lives before we suddenly realized what the optimal fit for this mission was: The MinerCeptor.

ziggy was first on the scene with the new build: an Atron Interceptor with three mining lasers and cargo hold rigs. the other stealth bombers and i watched with great amusement as ziggy would warp in, mine a fraction of a cycle, and warp right off as the defense tried to lock him. eventually i parked my hound and got myself a minerceptor of my own while thrawn chipped away with his nemesis.

the guards made things super slow - most of the time we were not mining and just warping around. things were developing behind the scenes, though...our combat fleet was well underway on its inaugural joint PVP roam with our new blues, and it was starting to get close to our location in Mermaid. Big did what he does and this series of events happened:

that’s FC Big poking his head into local while the guard is shittalking me, followed immediately by the guard getting hictor tackled while the 40 ship joint fleet pours in. all the while ziggy, thrawn, and i are mannermining in our combat frigates

the roamfleet left shortly after to avoid getting bottled up in the Mermaid pocket. for the next hour or so, the guards were terrified at the prospect of Big coming back, so a hilarious game theory situation arose: the guards would park combat ships like Interceptors or Prophecies in the belt, but far away from the beacons so they couldn’t be instantly hictor tackled. ziggy and i would warp in in our minerceptors and start suckin down the compressed ore, looking like a couple of completely insane idiots, staring at various groups of heavily armed guards while innocently mining on our 2000hp ships with no way to defend ourselves:

we were just having a laugh (with a web of bookmarks and 1 second align times), but to them we must have looked like extremely obvious bait, because they kept running away from us. scaring off a gila with minerceptors made us very happy.

we didn’t care about the 25 million isk worth of compressed ore (this was about mining salt) so we would have loved to just jettison all of it, but compressed ore is a member of the tier of items that cannot be jettisoned. so we had to fly every full load 7 jumps away, to the nearest NPC station. (thus the cargo rigs).

the guards eventually regained some of their courage, but to their dismay thrawn’s personal fleet included an arbyco that killed a number of their cheap guard ships before they brought out the big guns. they had an oracle, a prophecy, a gila, and two phantasms guarding the heavily damaged belt at one point. i guess we wore down their patience fast, because after a surprisingly short time they gave up the defense abruptly and entirely. a few more loads of ore later, we got the belt below the 30% mass threshold and it disappeared. this was what the belt looked like moments before its demise:

mission accomplished!

Tonight we tried to go kill the special asteroid belt that belongs to [MAGA]. we got a proper fleet together to fly way out into deep null, but we jumped in to find out that our chinese blues had killed the belt shortly before we got there. So instead we decided to cause a diplomatic incident by shooting at the MAGA sovereign citadel until some mercenaries they had hired showed up to defend (?)

Oct 10, 2003

i intended to make a big storytime post here but never got around to it!

R34 was the 4chan corp - they reformed from [4CH] when that corp's CEO went AWOL. they weren't big, maybe ~20 active players (not counting honk spies). but they lived nearby and they were actual nazis so i made it my project to ruin their gameplay (along with a bunch of honk who jumped at the chance to make some actual nazis lose their poo poo). it took about a month - we burned all their bases almost daily for a couple weeks straight, then started doing the same to all of their allies until they finally got booted/set red by all of their former friends. around that point they also lost most of their big ships in various bungled move operations in Syndicate or failed offenses in our space. their military lead/FC angrily quit the game due to stress about halfway through phase 2. right after their CEO told everyone to move out of null, one of their directors left the corp and hangarstole on the way out which sealed the deal. nearly all of their members have not logged in months, including all of their leadership

oh yeah around the middle of the project, they hired mercs to do 10 billion in damage to us. the mercs showed up, killed a single VNI of ours, and then we blew up 2b of the mercs' ships and they never came back. there were a lot of good little stories in the whole thing...maybe i actually will write it all up one day

it helped that we had spies in their alliance the entire time. salt leaks here, nazi leaks here, reddit thread here

if you haven't been following Honk's arc closely, we've never lost touch with our roots: we're still selling permits. i personally try to sell Safe Travel, Ratting, and Mining permits to most enemies that i kill in their home systems, but have never actually closed a deal - is it something about the way i ask? Tenbux, however, is in the business of selling permits for the space we actually own, and business has been booming for ages now

anyway, Tenbux has been selling Syndicate local "Schakeline" some kind of permit at the price of 50 million isk per week for months now. Schakeline sends Tenbux a 50m contract every weekend, and like all of Tenbux's permit customers, has been carefully instructed to say "honk" if they ever run into a Honk combat pilot that appears to be threatening.

of course i had absolutely no idea about this, so when my scout saw a solo Tempest yoloing up the Soza pipe i eagerly moved my closest battleship into position and did the deed:

i did find it weird that despite being in a corp i had never heard of, Schakeline honked at me both in local as well as in PM before i finished blowing up their ship. the PMs i got immediately after explained it:

tenbux was indeed contacted, and he checked his ledger. what do you know! after months of timely payment, Schakeline had actually failed to pay the 50m weekly permit fee this week! nothing came in on the weekend. Schakeline was still upset, probably mostly at themself:

but Tenbux, ever the expert permit honker, smoothed things over and Schakeline is now back on the Syndicate (?) Permit (?) list

Here is a list of major players in the galaxy:

HONK: A small band of miscreants based in Syndicate ranging from career MMO PVEers to bloodthirsty solo roamers. Ours truly. We have a couple hundred members, and have a max of 30 pilots on grid these days

PANTHEON: The largest entity in the game, a coalition controlling Fountain, Delve, and part of Querious. The executor alliance is HappyBees, and they love their "Goons" branding. "Goon Swarm" is one of their corps haha. About 6000 pilots, and they can field 300+ in the modern era

GENESIS FEDERATION / GENFED: The second-largest entity in the game. They live in the south (Period Basis, Paragon Soul, Esoteria) and spend most of their time suiciding haulers carrying player-owned-stations in Syndicate. I think they might have around 2000 players

SILENT ALLIANCE / SHH: Originally the primary villain in the HONK Cinematic Universe, now the only major coalition that we're blue with (long story). We are a special member of the Silent Featheration, with permission to manage our own standings as long as we're blue to the core alliances in Silent Fed. They can field 300+ and I think their membership is over 1000

FIRE FLIES / FF: A Chinese alliance who has been in a permanent war with Silent for a very long time now. I'm not too sure but I think they can field 200 in their TZ

NO: Originally a pure PVP alliance run by the Russian corp SKY. Eventually PEW (formerly of Silent) left Mercenary Coalition and took the lead of NO, turning it into a mid-sized alliance composed largely of skilled PVPers. I don't know their membership count, but they can field 100 to 200 pilots depending on whether the TZ is good for their Chinese wing, KOFR

There are some other entities like OG, VOID, ACR, PHPC that aren't super important to the rise and fall of the blue donut

ACT I: HONK'S SAFARI

In early April we got the idea to drop a capsuleer outpost in Pantheon territory so we could take over their T9 system and rat there while causing havoc in the main pipe to lowsec. Slippy dropped the outpost in YRNJ using a fake corp (BO0P: Gooseflock Lossmails LLC) and we moved in immediately.

We ratted the 9s for a week or two before Pantheon came in and (you could tell) painfully burned their own T9 rat base. We had some good fleet fights and blew up a whole lot of Pantheon ships, including many fit with a strange new doctrine. Eventually scanning's release date was announced, and we packed up the station and carried it out.

During the safari, an event that would eventually become important was the arrival of the MARS alliance. They had been living down in Providence (noob city), but as a result of unspecified drama their leader Mario Penterman abruptly left the Providence Alliance and brought them up to Fountain to join Pantheon.

Lots of fun was had on safari, but the most important factor for future events was the establishment of Pillar's Camp. Pillarhamper joined HONK in December and quickly became one of our best PVPers. He really went wild once he got into a rhythm in the Hophib pipe: billions of Pantheon ISK flows into Pillar's wallet every day, even though they know exactly what he's doing. It's crazy

ACT II: PILLAR'S WAR

As the safari faded into memory, we kept having fun in Fountain. Pillar farmed hundreds of Pantheon ships, Ziggy soloed battlecruisers daily in his interceptor, and we all enjoyed having so much content 7 jumps from home.

Things started heating up a little when one of our black ops veterans Sonova led a few late-night fleets to hit shield timers in 9-V, a highway interchange that MARS had been tasked with guarding. We didn't even take any armor timers, but this evidently offended MARS and we got some vague threats in exchange. Another HONK pilot, Baja, saw the salt generated just from 3 or 4 covops pilots setting armor timers and took a few days to burn R3W, a T7 ratting system near 9-V that MARS liked to use.

In a critical coincidence, the Russian pirate alliance "Wild Geese" (WIGI) decided during the same period that Baja was burning R3W to set some structure timers and burn rat bases around 9-V. Now, HONK has basically zero affiliation with WIGI - no diplo channels, no shared ops, and we don't even live that close (they're way out in the end of Outer Ring). We are neutral and we shoot each other occasionally. But it is not hard to imagine the confusion that the generally smoother-brained Pantheon pilots experience when they see both "Wild Geese" and "Gooseflock Featheration" roaming Fountain and being rude in their space.

All of the above evidently resulted in an internal boiling-over, and we started seeing a pilot from the NSF alliance, Kyro, roaming our space in Syndicate and making weird vague threats of conquest and eviction. NSF is its own alliance, but they're closely allied with MARS, which itself belongs to the greater BOOP alliance, which holds seats on the Pantheon leadership council. They have not responded to my requests for an org chart.

It was intended to be an internal-only video, but since multiple eager HONK members have already posted it to this publicly-viewable thread, I will relink the second time Kyro brought a heavy fleet into Syndicate:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZXDkmtteAg

You can see some of his weird bluster at the start. Anyway, Kyro brought us a lot of content, and for that we're grateful, but he did not end up evicting us from Syndicate or whatever else he said he would do

Kyro did not bring any more heavy fleets after that. There was another week or so of base burns and shield timers, but HONK's losses were minimal and Pantheon's losses were reasonably heavy. Of course, once Pantheon started getting bases burnt in our pocket, we responded in kind, and we are much more effective at that type of warfare (having had plenty of practice when we successfully made the 4chan corp quit the game).

This is where things started to really escalate. MARS had recently recruited a new Chinese corp, MANW, presumably for timezone coverage. They dropped a corporate citadel in L-A, only two jumps from the lowsec entry at Hophib and right next door to MARS' headquarters in our former safari system, YRNJ. MANW lost a decent number of ships to us, but it seems that they were really set off by our base burning. I guess they're a PVE-heavy group, and moving all the way to Fountain only to have PVE completely removed from your area by a new enemy would be pretty frustrating

A brief aside to establish the state of high-level diplomacy at this point:

  • PANTHEON is blue with GENFED and SILENT
  • HONK is a special member of SILENT, with the provision that we set our own standings - and we are neutral with PANTHEON.
  • Honk has a corporate citadel up in the north, in EC- (Pure Blind), that Silent helped us anchor and has pledged to protect
  • At this stage, Pantheon had reluctantly told its members that any targets in Silent space are off limits, even the HONK citadel.
  • Honk was at war, but only with the segment of Pantheon that we'd been calling "Fake BOOP" - MARS and their neighbors WTF, NSF, and BEER.

This meant that when the angry MANW pilots brought an interceptor fleet to EC- and started shooting the armor timor (we self-reinforced daily for TZ reasons), it was a major escalation in terms of the Honk-Silent-Pantheon diplomatic situation. This attack was thwarted by our Silent Federation neighbors, OSCH. They jumped into system and demanded that MANW (who is blue to them) "LEAVE OR DIE!". MANW said some Google-translated things about how "HONK's behavior is disgusting" and they will "Knock over our castle", but they did not leave..so they died.

This shook things up significantly inside Pantheon - specifically the BOOP/MARS wing that MANW is part of and that we had been hitting the hardest over the last few weeks. Immediately after OSCH's heroic blue-on-blue victory, Mario (the head of MARS and a member of the Pantheon leadership council) screamed so loudly about this situation in leadership channels that SonBanana (Pantheon's executor) opened talks with Honk's diplo. SonBanana basically demanded that Honk set Pantheon blue, and when we expressed disinterest, he flipped out and declared total war - the entirety of Pantheon now had HONK as a war target.

ACT III: ALL-OUT WAR

In advance of the release of scanning, which brought the ability to find previously hidden capsuleer outposts, HONK had unanchored all of its outposts from Syndicate so that our enemies would not have any true hard targets in our space. Now that Pantheon was riled up with HONK in their sights, they needed targets...but HONK lives in NPC space, where the only material damage that can be done (beyond ad-hoc PVP) is burning rat bases. Pantheon's strategic geniuses decided that SPAC (a small corp that's one of our few blues) is a "HONK shell corp", and appointed their main FCs to lead full coalition heavy fleets of 60+ pilots to blow up SPAC's POSes.

We generally did not contest these, as there's no point undocking 20 of our ships when they have 70 heavies with full logi chains, but there was some fun had catching stragglers or trapping the bored pilots who returned in faction cruisers after a boring POS shoot with no enemy contact. My favorite was when they blew up a 3 billion ISK POS, left, and then suicided 4 billion in faction cruisers to a perfect Badran trap 10 minutes later.

All the while, Pillar continued to farm multiple Pantheon battleships per day in the Hophib pipe, and Pantheon pilots would PM us totally mental poo poo:

During this phase the exciting events detailed earlier in the thread occurred: a few HONK covops pilots were somehow able to hull timer MARS' headquarters in YRNJ, and Pantheon called in Genfed for a total of 360 ships defending the hull timer against HONK's 30. We (obviously) did not get the citadel, but this will come into play later.

Eventually, after about 3 weeks, all of the SPAC outposts in Syndicate had been blown up, and Pantheon set their sights on the last remaining HONK structures: two capsuleer outposts and our corporate citadel in EC-, way up in Pure Blind. One capsuleer outpost was blown up at its second anchoring timer by MARS, and the pilot's account was banned for "improper name" (877 Cash Now), almost certainly due to some salty mass reporting.

Just hours ago, Sonova finished analyzing all of the killmails HONK has accrued between Kyro's first heavy fleet (June 22) and July 25 - we have a total of 297 billion ISK worth of killmails.

ACT IV: THE BIG PICTURE

To describe the current situation, we need to zoom out a bit. Earlier this month, to everyone's surprise, the NO alliance (composed mostly of former mercs who mostly just do PVP) dropped Sov in the north. Pantheon and Silent have massive grudges against NO for daring to PVP proficiently, so they quickly formed massive fleets and destroyed the KOFR citadel.

This gave NO a clearer focus: they decided to go all-in on breaking up the blue donut of Pantheon, Genfed, and Silent along with their smaller associated entities like Catch22 and TVC/Lunar. FF fleeted up with NO and they went straight for TVC in Vale while Pantheon and Silent shot at NO's new structures in Geminate. NO lost some POSes, but Lunar got absolutely smashed. Lunar and Silent have repeatedly been fleet wiped, with TVC/Lunar losing something like 6 citadels in one weekend. Many Lunar players have stopped logging in.

Silent and Pantheon decided to form an official coalition, which they called GOAT. Humorously, as technical members of the Silent Federation, HONK was permitted to join (after some initial bans) the GOAT discord, despite being not just red but literally at war with half of the GOAT entente. Further fueling the diplomatic flames were the repeated instances of Pantheon flying 50 jumps north to defend Silent Federation space while HONK uses this opportunity to shoot structures and burn bases in now-lightly-defended Pantheon territory.

This is where the pieces start coming together. This last Sunday, HONK's citadel and outpost in EC- had hull timers. Knowing that HONK has dozens of spies inside Pantheon, they tried to disguise their operation by calling a 'flash form home defense' CTA a couple hours before the timers, and used hidden manually-vetted voice channels to hide their numbers. Imagine Pantheon's surprise when shortly before the timer comes out a 110-ship NO fleet jumps into EC-, lands on the HONK citadel, and honks in local. The only action we had was MANW attacking the citadel with a 22-ship noob frig fleet while the 70-pilot Pantheon fleet flew home through lowsec.

Through this entire GOAT vs. NO conflict, we have been setting many, many armor and hull timers on the Pantheon structures in Taurus while Pantheon is deployed elsewhere, which results in things like 4 HONK pilots afking cloaked while 80 (!) Pantheon pilots have a zero-content 2 hour defense fleet op for POS hull timers. Repeatedly! Their morale has been visibly flagging.

In the last couple days (right after the surprise NO defense fleet), the situation has rapidly escalated. Pantheon demanded that Silent "deal with" their unruly HONK wing, threatening to stop defending the north entirely unless HONK pulls out of Fountain entirely. Remember that Pantheon themselves were the ones to declare to total war! To our surprise, Silent snapped at this - after weeks of being beaten up by NO, it seems they aren't interested in getting bullied by what they thought were their allies. Silent leadership made a long announcement to their members, specifically calling out the bullying re: HONK, as well as the YRNJ hull timer when Pantheon fielded 360 pilots (including the Genfed batphone) against HONK, but bring less than a third of that to the fights against NO. They then abruptly set Pantheon to neutral, taking a significant chunk out of the blue donut.

So there we are - the situation is still changing rapidly (NO is now in Delve with arby covops burning bases, lmao) but once again HONK is at the center of the intrigue, all because the stupid bullshit we like to do makes serious gamers' heads pop. I love to play video games the wrong way
