If you subscribe to the theory that running backs are easily replaceable and not a predictor of team success, then this is a highly logical course of action.

What's not logical is helping the Catholic Church manage the fallout from covering up a child abuse scandal.

Now I do not know whether I was then a head coach dreaming I was a Saints fan, or whether I am now a Saints fan, dreaming I am a head coach.
I mean, he's probably not worth the deal he's set up for, but the plan was clearly to cross that bridge next year.

That team is going to be a shitshow the instant Brees retires. I'm rooting for him to make it to freedom, and a team I would feel less icky cheering for him on.

Probably not on Clowney!

Clowney said his reasoning for tennessee was "familiarity over economics," and though I understand what he was saying I'm choosing to believe how Loomis was selling him on a contract that would pay out incrementally over 17 years and automatically deposit into an investment instrument that he could turn into tranches and sell on the forex markets "Just like we did with Emmanuel Sanders to get around the cap" and Clowney eventually glazed over and said "gently caress this poo poo."

This is probably way closer to the truth than we think. Loomis has some magical cap skills.

I think the Titans overpaid. I'd have liked Clowney but with the cap I'd hope they could get better value, and I doubt they could free up cap space on a 1 year deal so easily.

Oh and the Loomis special here is that it's a 12 million deal over 4 years and the contract voids after the first year but it's mostly signing bonus, so he'd get like 7-10 million at signing with a cap hit of 7 million and then the rest of the cap pushed to next year

He wanted 21m this year and barely got half that so I think he probably saw the Titans as his best shot to put together a season that would get him paid next year. Vrabel has proven he knows how to use him in Houston and Tennessee had a great defense last year so it’s a good place for him to earn a bigger contract. Probably doesn’t hurt that they were in the AFC championship last year either.
