We should be a Bat, so that we may one day become a vampire. An Imp is likely to be bound carefully with spells.

Also, we need a Share of Time

Just had a great idea, let’s be a ghost and find a dying old person surrounded by family. Possess them, tell one of the kids they’re secretly an heir to the throne and then die.

Needless to say, the effect this has on the battlemage is rather drastic, and not very subtle.
As if a balloon stretched around a skeleton suddenly bereft of air, the skin begins stretching worryingly against the battlemages lanky frame – all control of the familiar is lost in an instant, turning it from mild annoyance to unfettered spirit as it begins feasting on the sudden wellspring of power before being itself snuffed out via psychic backlash – the wizard screams silently as breath leave him and he claws at his throat, liquid visibly draining and flowing from every open pore down into his robes – which cover the egress of the flow onto the floor – there are several bright flashes as unknown spells begin to go off in the vicinity, most from the outside bouncing harmlessly of off the dome – some from within, as the drained wizards wards and contingencies begin to pop off and your caretaker attempts to create for himself a sanctuary.

Anyway we should be a Ghost in the Castle and buy a Timeshare

"I can't believe you fought in The Last War, Elder, what was it like? Were you a hero?"

"Tch, nothing so noble as the stories would have you believe, my dear. I was a warrior, nothing more, nothing less. It was a dark time, of old grudges for older men. When blood was shed for reasons both petty and Sinful.
No, the true heroes are the likes of you, the Virtuous, giving deep of yourselves to better those around you."

"You honour me with your words, Elder, yet my curiosity remains, how did we win?"

"In the end, there was simply nothing left to fight for."

The lands around the Haleheart Hospital are evergreen and blooming. Soft rolling hills give way to wide-stretched fields where flowers of every colour weave a serene tapestry to complement the tranquillity of the mild, fluffy-cloud filled sky.
If the world was a body, this would be its heart, and the people there present its rhythm and flow. Here come the elderly, the scuffed and injured, the weak, but also those seeking to find purpose in mending, healing and caring for the former.
It is a community built around friendship and deep, meaningful connections, where not a fly is harmed without then being subsequently resuscitated and nursed back to fit-flying-form.

At its centre lay the Hospital itself, a sprawling city-esque temple complex where arts both arcane, esoteric and alchemic meet to create a true sanctuary for all the creatures of the world.

You come to "consciousness" far, far on the outskirts of these elysian fields, by the river forming it's western border by the village of Care, in a form far more alien than any you have possessed before.

You are... a phenomena. A curse , or disease if you will, with a mind of it's own. Your own. And you are ever so weak. Ever so powerful.
You exist in your current state inside of Patient Zero, a feral specimen of Desmodus Rotundus in somewhat dire straits, in an abandoned shed hiding from most everything nearby.

Patient Zero is on its last legs. That much is obvious, and you are not yet powerful enough to bring it to any semblance of unlife, having just been thrust into life-of-a-kind yourself.
Still, being as you are what is essentially a disease, finding a new host or two shouldn't be that difficult. The trick, as always, is not getting caught, and not getting yourself or your host killed before you do.

---

Time, from your unique point of view, is rather vague. You do not know the cycles of moon and star, for you have no eyes with which to see. You know only the ebb and flow of blood, protein, sugars and fats.
You exist as an enemy within an other that is at the same time your home and your sole source of sustenance. If you are to survive, you must strike a delicate balance in this time out of time, and lead yourself and your self to whatever future you wish to seize.

1: In the early stages of your disease with Patient Zero, you decide to take...
A: An aggressive approach
B: A careful approach
B: A stealthy approach
D: A dormant approach

2: Once established in Patient Zero, you will...
E: Seize all functions
F: Seize upper functions
G: Seize lower functions
H: Seize inner functions

We don't want to be dormant, that means nothing happens at all. Stealthy is slow, but means we will make some progress.

The insides are the most important part. We can make the animal crave what we want.

You mingle amongst other bloodcells, mimicking both their function and form, with only the minutest drain of system resources for your own benefit. You mount no wasting attack on organs, deliver no poison nor toxin for liver or spleen to deal with and pose no threat to cells or the functioning of the day to day within the body. Indeed, as far as your host body is concerned, you are not a pathogen that needs to be monitored. Even the most paranoid of T-cell would have a hard time justifying bullying you overly, and soon you are accepted as just another part of the body.

A grave mistake.

For your methodology is more insidious. You lay low, grow and slowly, ever so slowly build up what is essentially a chop-shop; where passing blood cells are swiftly infused with the minutest trace of crystallized mana, half of which is devoted to covering your tracks and half of which forms the basis of a distributed telepathic propaganda network.

+ 🦂

The effect this has on your host is minimal, at first, so as not to rouse suspicion. Anxious dreams, stray thoughts that whisper unbidden strategies. For a creature as simple as the bat that you inhabit, they are as simple as suggestions that red apples might be tastier than green ones. Indeed, suggestions are all they are, for now, with the bat fully in control of all its functions, merely guided along by the voice in it's head that is you.

But that is not the extent of your ambition. Mentoring a bat is one thing, but with your ""senses"" growing sharper by the day as your network spreads and more of the host bodies inputs and analysis' can be intercepted, the more the shape of the world beyond is revealed to you.

Your bat lives in Care - a village so small that you can quiet literally throw a stone across it, at least if the stone was very light or the thrower very strong and especially if you had no qualms about hitting anyone you knew along the way - because you might and you would; there are no strangers here. Which leaves you with somewhat of a dilemma. Two really, considering the latest report from Cerebral. Patient Zero is dying. Though through no fault of your own. Had you gone faster, or more brutally, it would already be on deaths door, but as things stand you have at least two weeks (14 hp) before the body can no longer sustain itself, leaving you stranded. There are no two ways about it, it is time to expand. But how?

You could Suggest...
The bat feed around the river, hoping to spread amongst the water. [0hp]
The bat feed around the orchard, hoping to find a way to spread amongst the fruit. [1hp]
The bat feed around the pasture, hoping to find a way to spread amongst the cattle. [2hp]
The bat feed around the villagers, hoping to find a way to spread amongst them directly. [>4hp]

You could Command...

You could Force...

You could Expand your hold within Patient Zero...
Increasing the strength of your telepathic network. [2hp]
Increasing the versatility of your telepathic network. [2hp]
Beginning to take control of the Upper Functions. [>4hp]
Beginning to take control of the Lower Functions. [>4hp]

In addition to the hp costs listed, each action will take at least a day (1hp) to perform and there may be (are) unknown factors and risks involved that you cannot at the moment guesstimate.

Cattle - they have blood and won't be bothered by us flitting around, they might consume our guano if it's on the grass, or bodily fluids if we become more ill.

Versatility - if the network is useful enough, we might be able to sustain necessary functions longer or provide more effective dispersal methods. We can't push things very far at the moment, brute forcing things might kill the host even sooner.

*edit* We should specifically push the bat to have a taste for the flies and other bugs that tend to collect around cattle. Lots of nutrients, less distance flying, places to hang in nearby trees if we get tired.

Cordyceps! Cordyceps! Cordyceps!

If we're not creating a magically controlled strain of zombie like infections by eating infectious fruit that is graciously given to visitors and sold far and wide, what are we even doing? Why would we not try to take people and make them Eusocial, and with a hive mind spread ourselves far and wide?
